The ideal candidate thrives in a customer-centric, execution-oriented environment and has a proven track record of taking sensor-based and regulated products from concept through global commercialization while owning full P&L responsibility. The Director will operate at the intersection of product strategy, engineering, software development, supply chain, operations, and commercial execution, ensuring product lines are competitively positioned, scalable, compliant, and aligned with long-term growth objectives. This individual will serve as a highly visible, cross-functional leader, adept at influencing within both technical and executive settings. Key Responsibilities Portfolio Strategy, Sensors & P&L Ownership Develop and lead a unified product strategy, vision, and multi-year roadmap for the Cole-Parmer Essentials and Traceable portfolios, with explicit focus on: Industrial and laboratory sensors Calibration-driven, compliance-critical instruments Cloud-connected and SaaS-enabled monitoring platforms Own full P&L responsibility for assigned product lines, driving global revenue growth, margin expansion, cost discipline, and long-term portfolio value creation. Establish clear portfolio priorities, investment theses, and performance metrics to guide product, sourcing, and commercialization decisions. Product Lifecycle Management & Regulated Innovation Lead end-to-end product lifecycle management for sensor-based hardware, embedded systems, firmware, and cloud-connected solutions - from concept and design through development, launch, scale, sustainment, and end-of-life. Partner closely with Engineering and Software Development to define: Sensor architecture and component selection Firmware and data integrity requirements Cloud, alerting, and data-logging platforms supporting continuous monitoring Ensure Traceable products meet regulatory, calibration, and certification requirements (e.g., NIST-traceable calibration, cold-chain and regulated-environment compliance) while advancing usability, reliability, and workflow integration. Hands-On Supplier Sourcing & Strategic Partnerships Play an active, hands-on role in identifying, evaluating, selecting, and onboarding strategic suppliers, OEM/ODM partners, technology providers, and contract manufacturers to advance Cole-Parmer Essentials and Traceable portfolios. Partner directly with Supply Chain, Engineering, and Operations to: Source sensors, components, instruments, and subsystems Balance performance, quality, cost-of-goods, scalability, and compliance requirements Lead supplier and partner engagement models including: Co-development and co-innovation initiatives Licensing and OEM agreements Contract manufacturing and external sourcing strategies Establish and maintain strong relationships with key global suppliers, ensuring alignment on quality standards, capacity planning, regulatory compliance, and product roadmaps. Participate directly in supplier negotiations, technical evaluations, and business reviews, serving as a product-level decision maker - not a passive stakeholder. Cross-Functional Execution & Commercial Enablement Collaborate with Product Marketing, Sales, and Commercial teams to develop: Clear value propositions for sensor-driven and monitoring solutions Pricing strategies aligned to value, compliance, reliability, and total cost of ownership Go-to-market plans for hardware + software offerings Lead efforts to prepare product, technical, and application content, including specifications, documentation, and use-case materials, to support exceptional customer experience, brand differentiation, and customer loyalty. Act as a product subject-matter expert supporting sales enablement, customer engagement, and strategic account discussions. Assess build vs. buy vs. partner decisions for new sensor technologies, monitoring platforms, and data-enabled solutions. Identify and prioritize opportunities to expand market share, penetrate adjacent segments, and improve product-market fit across laboratory, biopharma, healthcare, industrial, and cold-chain markets. Customer, Market & Data-Driven Insights Drive Voice of Customer (VOC) initiatives across laboratory, industrial, cold storage, and regulated environments to inform product strategy and roadmap decisions. Maintain deep understanding of: Customer workflows and use cases Regulatory and compliance requirements Competitive dynamics and emerging technologies Leverage sales, market, and operational data to deliver fact-based insights and recommendations to senior leadership. Balance short-term execution priorities with long-term strategic objectives through disciplined, data-driven decision-making. Leadership & Influence Serve as a trusted product leader and thought partner to senior leadership. Influence across engineering, software, operations, supply chain, and commercial teams to drive alignment, accountability, and results. Perform other duties as assigned.     Job Description Job Title: Manager, Global Product - Fluid Handling Reports To: VP, Essentials Vernon Hills, IL FLSA Status: Exempt The Global Product Manager develops global and holistic product portfolio, product category, and supplier strategies with a focus on the Fluid Handling product line. The candidate will translate those strategies into global business plans and tactical programs to drive revenue and profit for the business unit and corporation. Implements the appropriate programs to either internally develop, contract manufacture, license or source the appropriate products with the goal of driving revenue and profitability growth of the category portfolio - overall P&L responsibility for Fluid Handling lines. Demonstrates a deep understanding of the assigned product line including its application by customers, the breadth of brands, and the range of requirements demanded by the laboratory through process marketplace. This role is seen as an expert by others in the organization. Key Responsibilities: Develop a clear and competitive value proposition for Fluid Handling products Contribute to application specific content builds for key customer segments such as bio pharma/biotech, academics, food & agriculture, chemical process and manufacturing Develop materials and train commercial sales team on product portfolio Identify and gather market data to support operational and strategic goals Build and maintain relationships with internal and external service providers and stakeholders Responsible for maximizing global revenues, margins, and growth of assigned products by creating strong and innovative strategic plans for growth within the market Responsible for the product development process within the new product development stage-gate process including, but not limited to new product idea generation, VOC and market potential capture, product specification development, competitive marketplace and positioning development, effectively forecast unit and sales demand Works with commercial sales team to develop sales forecasts for annual plans and new product introductions, accurately and effectively Develops and implements appropriate and effective global pricing strategies by channel to maximize the end to end margin Understands the strengths and weaknesses of competitor's products and strategies via competitive data gathering and capture Creates effective gap analysis summaries Stays current on market direction and drivers through a variety of means. Including, but not limited to, direct interactions with customers, outside suppliers, partners, and industry contacts. Gathers and prepares all the necessary product and technical information and content for the introduction of new products. Including, application stories and testimonials for all products. Assists in product selection, booth set up, booth staffing, technical presentations in a variety of industry tradeshows Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree - B.A / B.S. with major/minor in sciences/business required - business, marketing, science, or engineering. MBA / Master's Degree / Graduate degree preferred Candidates must have at least 5 years of progressive experience in product management / product development, marketing or strategic sourcing. Potential candidates should have relevant experience in at least two (and preferably more) of the following areas: Prior commercial experience in a product management, sales or marketing organization A technical background in science, engineering or research, to include an awareness of technology trends and the evolution of scientific & engineering applications Industry-related experience in laboratory or BioPharm markets Contract negotiations with detailed and complex terms in such areas as pricing, delivery, support and services Willing to take calculated risks and when risk does not pan out, must be able to learn from mistakes Excellent interpersonal skills to work as a member of a cross-functional team and relate well to various levels of the organization with customer orientation and a problem solving, can-do attitude Strategic and conceptual thinking in order to identify a variety of means to grow assigned products and lines, be able to obtain and evaluate data, set strategies and drive execution. Must also possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure accurate appraisal, interpretation, and justification of product line plans Must possess strong negotiation skills to independently negotiate and manage a relationship with external suppliers/management level personnel, representing Cole-Parmer's interests. Advanced in Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Must be able to obtain, manipulate and analyze data and effectively compile them and present them into reports or presentations.
