Medical Surgical / ER Registered Nurse - RN Reports to: MedSurg Director & ED Trauma Director - Shared Governance FLSA Classification: Full-time, Non-exempt, Hourly Essential Functions * Conduct physical exams to assess patient health needs and problems. * Implement physicians' orders, such as performing treatments, starting IVs, administering medications, and interpreting tests. * Review and maintain medical records. * Administer direct care to injured, disabled, ill or convalescent patients. * Document pertinent information and medication administration. * Counsel patients and family members on disease prevention and health maintenance. * Maintain a safe and hygienic working environment. * Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and families. * Complete required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. * Assess patient health continuously and implement and develop nursing care plans. * Receive patients, explain procedures, check vital signs, complete assessments, required screenings, administer therapy, monitor reactions, document and report information to physicians appropriately. * Deal with emergency situations effectively as they arise. * Provide infusion treatments such as hydration, blood and blood components, drugs, and other solutions. * Appropriately and accurately document patient care, medication administration, and the ongoing assessment of the patient. * Utilize proper medication administration rights and techniques. * Maintain and ensure confidentiality of patient information and records. * Read emails, participate in staff meetings and communication to remain updated on trends, changes, department and organizational requirements. * Assist other departments as needed. * Emotional Intelligence. * Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience * Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited school of nursing required. * Current, unencumbered Colorado RN license is required. * Current BLS, ACLS, TNCC, and PALS or ENPC are required within six (6) months of hire or transfer. * Knowledge of current nursing trends and practices, utilizing evidence-based practices. Reports to: Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) FLSA Classification: Full-time, Exempt, Salary The Director of Nursing integrates core values and beliefs to achieve quality care, improve nurse engagement and increase nurse retention. It is expected that this Director can comfortably manage the entire department, focusing on enhancing emergency and trauma skills, education, process, policy and procedures. Essential Functions Serve as a liaison between staff, physicians, Clinical Mangers, and CNO. Effectively respond to challenges in a positive manner and with a high degree of problem solving and cooperation. Collaborate with the CNO, Clinical Manager, and staff to prepare annual departmental goals and objectives. Establish a high standard of care Ensure ongoing performance improvement processes and assures compliance with competency and Evidence Based Practice. Advises medical staff, department heads, and hospital administrators in matters related to nursing services. Implement staffing plan and provide direct patient care on a regularly scheduled basis. Design, implement, and continually evaluate deficiencies identified in surveys. Regularly attend meetings and make recommendations for improvements in patient care. Establish, control, and maintain an adequate level of required supplies and equipment. Monitor, evaluate, and correct departmental equipment malfunctions or breakdowns, following proper facility procedures. Consult with CNO and HR prior to implementing disciplinary actions. Serve as a spokesperson for nursing matters and represent the hospital with professional nursing and related organizations. Oversee operations of Infusion Clinic and assure competency and Evidence Based Practice. Mentor, train, supervise, and complete annual evaluations and competencies for all employees within your department. Responsible annually for the implementation, review, revision, and management of department policies, procedures, workflows, job descriptions, and other essential documents unspecified. Responsible for the annual review, revision, and implementation of department specific scopes of service. Responsible for the fiscal operation of the department. Assist in the development of the annual budget which includes preparing operating expenses and capital budget requests. Responsible for the maintenance and implementation of all department specific contracts and agreements. Notify administration of any changes, renewals, or terminations prior to the renewal or termination date. Responsible for the monitoring and timely approval of timecards, time off requests, sick leave, contract labor hours, etc., to ensure an accurate biweekly payroll process. Understand and adhere to quality metrics; ensure department staff understand and participate in quality improvement efforts, measurements, and implementation. Assure the department's compliance with all regulatory statues, standards, issues, agencies, and accrediting bodies. Interview, evaluate candidates, and hire new employees in collaboration with Human Resources and established hospital guidelines. Maintain accurate department records and statistics. Actively participate in committees and meetings as requested. Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited nursing school required. Master's degree preferred. A current, unencumbered Colorado license required. Current BLS, ACLS, TNCC and/or PALS required within three (3) months of hire or transfer. Physician Assistant: Orthopedics Essential Functions: * Apply and remove dressings, sutures, and/or staples. * Evaluate, treat, and provide follow-up care for patients in post-op status. * Perform physical assessments, work related return to work evaluations and physicals, and disability type determinations. * Assist the physician in all patient duties including rooming patients, taking vital signs, patient history, and procedures. * Evaluate and perform examinations, provide stabilization for patients with acute serious medical conditions and injury. * Facilitate transfer as appropriate to an emergency facility or hospital. * Other duties as assigned. Provide Excellent Patient Care: * Manage patient care in a timely manner and maintain a level of productivity equal to other providers on staff. * Interpret radiology, EKG, laboratory, and basic pulmonary function tests. * Thoroughly and accurately document every patient encounter. * Perform required quality assurance steps in the patient care process. * Bill appropriately for each visit. * Interact with office, laboratory, radiology, and nursing staff as part of the patient care process. * Interface, as appropriate and necessary, with providers and medical personnel within the hospital. * Other duties as assigned Other duties include but are not limited to: * Inpatient hospital coverage beginning at the time of admission for daytime admissions, or at the time of transfer for nighttime admissions. * Timely discharge reporting to the primary care physicians. * Recommendations regarding the appropriate level of care. * Initiation and discontinuation of consultants on medical cases. * Management of surgical cases with medical complications. * Assistance with the transfer of out-of-area patients to hospital. Education and Experience : * Maintain a current, unencumbered Colorado Licensure, Federal DEA and IBOP certifications. Complete adequate CME as required by licensure. * Maintain current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS within 6 months of hire or transfer. * At least 2 years experience working in orthopedics or emergency care settings evaluating and treating a broad range of patients in terms of age (infant to elderly), medically compliant (infectious disease, cardiac, orthopedic, etc.) and acuity level routine, urgent, and emergent. Skills and Education: * Professional and well-groomed appearance, including during call hours. * Communicate positively and effectively, both written and verbally, with residents, family, and staff. * Ability to use different EHR/ software for patient documentation purposes. * Communication skills between staff, patients, family members and consultants. A second language is an asset but not required. * Math skills to calculate medication dosages, etc. * Ability to address, understand, and recognize the needs of patients and family members on multiple levels. Must act with compassion and care. * High level diagnostic thinking * Current knowledge of up to date clinical information. * Must be able to perform with frequent interruptions and under pressure. * Must demonstrate problem solving skills in an evolving environment. * Work with honesty, compassion and integrity at all times. * Adherence to ALL confidentiality procedures and policies.
