Job Description:
Garfield Heights City Schools is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Weight Lifting Coach to lead and develop a safe, effective, and engaging strength and conditioning program for student-athletes. The Coach will be responsible for teaching proper lifting techniques, promoting physical fitness, and encouraging healthy lifestyle habits while ensuring safety and inclusivity for all participants. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of strength training, age-appropriate conditioning, and the ability to motivate and mentor middle school students.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model by promoting discipline, teamwork, and personal growth in student-athletes.
Skill Instruction: Teach and reinforce proper lifting techniques, injury prevention strategies, and age-appropriate conditioning programs.
Program Development: Design and implement strength and conditioning activities that build foundational athletic skills and complement other sports programs.
Safety & Supervision: Maintain a safe environment by monitoring equipment use, enforcing safety rules, and providing direct supervision at all times.
Compliance: Ensure adherence to Garfield Heights City Schools and OHSAA policies, including participation eligibility and safety standards.
Collaboration: Work with athletic staff and other coaches to support overall athletic development and consistency across programs.
Student Support: Encourage healthy lifestyle habits, responsibility, and academic accountability alongside athletic development.
Program Operations: Oversee weight room organization, equipment care, scheduling, and communication with athletes and families.
Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration.
Qualifications:
Valid Pupil Activity Permit with the Ohio Department of Education
Satisfactory BCI/FBI background checks
Knowledge of weight lifting techniques, conditioning, and injury prevention (certification in strength and conditioning preferred but not required)
Prior coaching, teaching, or athletic training experience preferred
Strong communication, organizational, and mentoring skills

Coaches are expected to arrive 15 minutes before classes start, and are paid 15 mins beforehand and 15 minutes afterwards, 30 mins extra per shift.

Job Descriptions/Duties The Family Success Network Family Coach provides direct services to families including administration of screening tools, home visiting, parent education programs, resource management and referral, concrete supports, financial literacy and family coaching. Specific activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide ongoing supportive consultations and prevention case management services delivered either virtually or through a combination of phone calls, emails, skype, or in-person through individual meetings, including but not limited to:
Assessing and administering universal screenings, financial literacy training, and/or concrete supports.
Universal screenings will assess families for trauma, substance use, and mental health. The tools utilized may include but are limited to: the Adverse Childhood Experience (ACEs) Survey; the Child Trauma Assessment Checklist (CTAC); UNCOPE (substance abuse screening); and a mental health screening tool.
Provide short-term, intensive, in-home services:
Provide interested families a series of one to two home visits each month and access to the full array of the six pillars (family coaching, parent education, basic life skills, financial literacy, service referrals, and concrete supports) of service delivery.
Serve as a Family Coach to develop a prevention services plan, outlining the families' goals and will utilize evidence-based programming to enhance the families' protective factors and increase the family's stability.
Provide parenting programming and facilitate access to Life Skills training, as well as Family Coaching, which will incorporate Motivational Interviewing to assist the family in moving towards behavioral change.
All families engaged in Family Success Network services will work with a Family Coach who will complete the following tasks, as agreed upon by the family:
assess the strengths and needs of families
provide concrete support in times of need
develop and work with families on family success plans
provide financial literacy
utilize trainings to engage families and address identified needs, including but not limited to Triple P, Transition to Independence Process Model, Motivational Interviewing, and Strengthening Families Framework
provide services directly to families in their own homes or neutral setting
Manage an ongoing caseload of up to 30 families at one time, engaged in and receiving services.
Attend meetings amongst collaborative members.
Develop rapport with local social service partners and community resources to build and maintain a professional, responsive relationship with key community partners.
Document services consistent with requirements of OCTF Program Manager and FSN Program Manager.
Submit regular programmatic and fiscal reports to the Program Manager, as well as to other identified partners requesting data.
Actively engage with family and child serving systems, including attendance at community meetings, such as Family and Children First Council.
Represent the OCTF at any required national and local trainings and meetings.
Serve as point of contact for the county of service; and
Other duties, as assigned.

* Schedule, plan and conduct all practice sessions and scrimmages as approved by Principal/Athletic Director
* Develop and enforce training rules
* Assist in the selection of assistant coaches
* Correspond with college and university personnel to assist players in acquiring athletic scholarships
* Communicate with classroom teachers to determine the achievement level of each player
* Participate in awards program by distributing awards to the players
* Evaluate players
* Attend clinics, camps and seminars
* Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
* Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student athlete grades for eligibility purposes, etc.
* Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
* Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
* Attend meetings and in-services as required
* Knowledge of activity-specific Ohio High School Athletic Association rules/regulations
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assign duties and responsibilities to assistants
* Report individual/team results to the media as appropriate
* Forward a list of all participants in the sport, along with all information necessary for the eligibility report, to the Principal's office
* Assign lockers and oversee the condition of the locker room
* Schedule assistant coach's meetings
* Instruct players in the proper use of body building equipment, training and nutrition
* Instruct and supervise managers in game and practice preparation
* Attend and participate in Athletic Booster Club meetings as required
* Schedule off-season weight lifting and physical conditioning training as appropriate for individual activity
* Schedule fund-raising activities as approved by Principal/Athletic Director
* Procure and distribute all medical supplies and equipment
* Coordinate physical examinations for all players
* Serve as a role model for students
* Interact with administration and/or Board of Education and present information as requested
* Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
* Assist Athletic Director with financial responsibilities as they relate to specific athletic activity
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Building Principal
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or university preferred
* Previous coaching experience in softball, varsity experience preferred
* Demonstrates a strong coaching philosophy and commitment to excellence
* Proof of successful coaching experience preferred
* Appropriate student activity certificate
* First-aid certification
* CPR certification
* Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

* Ability to recognize and treat minor athletic injuries
