1926

Welcome to the College of the Sequoias, an institution that has been helping students achieve their educational and career goals since 1926.

College of the Sequoias was originally established in 1926 as Visalia Junior College as a department in the city high school.

1937

In 1937, the school provided bus service for students living outside of Visalia and commenced its building trades program.

1938

Visalia Junior College was later expanded and a campus was built in 1938.

1939

Williams’ most significant achievement involved constructing a new campus in 1939-40.

1947

Three years later, it offered classes in agricultural science – marking the beginning of a comprehensive program subsequently carried on at the college farm established in 1947.

1949

In 1949, it expanded further and formed the College of the Sequoias Community College District.

1985

Crookshanks, upon retiring in 1985, achieved the distinction of being the longest-serving community president in the nation.

2013

COS also opened its Tulare College Center in January 2013.

2016

The beginning of the fall 2016 semester marks a major milestone for College of the Sequoias – the 90th anniversary of its founding.
