ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Schedules and trains members of his custodial staff.
• Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
• Plans and oversees all maintenance and repair work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
• Maintains on a regular schedule all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.
• Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the maintenance, repair and operation of equipment and machines [OSHA].
• Conducts periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition.
• Monitors the time records of all custodial employees in the school and certifies them for salary payments.
• Maintains an inventory and recommends purchase of suitable supplies, tools and equipment.
• Evaluates the performance of the custodial staff on a regular basis.
• Strives constantly to promote the safety, health, and comfort of the students and employees.
• Establishes schedules for routine inspection and maintenance of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, including at least one building check every twelve hours during the heating season.
• Establishes schedules for routine safety inspections of play ground equipment, bleachers, steps, halls and all parts of the building and grounds.
• Keeps principal and maintenance supervisor informed of maintenance concerns.
• Checks routinely for events scheduled in building, and assigns appropriate personnel.
• When applicable, assists custodians in cleaning building.
• Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the storage, use and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste and hazardous material [OSHA].
• Ensures the safety of students.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
• Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district.
• Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
• Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, and intelligent human beings.
• Understands the legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values.

SALARY: $22.26/HR. - $26.39/HR.

Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
Cleans assigned classrooms daily and dusts furniture as time permits.
Keeps all floors and corridors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
Scrubs, mops down, and disinfects toilet and lunch room floors daily, and cleans sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
Washes all windows on both the inside and outside as frequently as necessary, weather permitting.
Assists in keeping the grounds free from rubbish.
Empties all trash cans daily.
Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week.
Makes such minor building repairs as he/she is capable of.
Reports major repairs needed promptly to the head custodian.
Reports immediately to the head custodian any damage to school property.
Remains on the school premises during scheduled hours, excluding lunch, and during non school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance required.
Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel, as requested by the head custodian.
Moves furniture and/or equipment as required for various activities and as directed by the head custodian.
Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the storage, use and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste and hazardous material [OSHA].
Reports immediately to the building principal any student or public misconduct in the building or on the grounds.

Classification Purpose: The primary purpose of the Custodial Technician, Animal Shelter classification is to clean and provide custodial care of the facilities and grounds of the Franklin County Dog Shelter. Job Duties: Sweep and mop floors using power equipment and hand tools. Clean and disinfect wards, cages, outside areas, and other designated areas and/or equipment throughout the shelter. Clean and sanitize all floors and surfaces in the shelter to include more specifically restrooms, locker and break rooms, medical and surgical suites, community room, front lobbies, all hallways, offices and rooms located in the shelter, and interior doors and windows. Empty and clean interior and exterior waste receptacles and replace liners. Replace all soap stations and paper towel receptacles. Clean exterior of light fixtures. Clean and remove debris from elevated or hanging wall items such as the tops of fire extinguishers, hand sanitizers, soap dispensers and wall hangings. Vacuum and spot clean carpeted areas. Wash, polish, or dust walls, doors, handles, partitions, sneeze guards, windowsills (top and bottom), furniture, and windows. Use specialty cleaners and equipment specific to animal shelter environments to ensure proper cleaning and disinfection.
Tasks may risk exposure to temperature/weather extremes, wetness/humidity, strong odors and/or disease/blood/body fluids (human and/or canine).
Check cleaning supply levels and work with Public Facilities Maintenance (PFM) Animal Care and Control's Building Manager when reordering is required and replenish cleaning supplies. Assist with unloading and storing custodial supplies and equipment. Keep custodial carts clean, maintained, and well stocked with supplies. Keep shelters janitor's closet neat, clean, and orderly. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
These duties are illustrative only and you may perform some or all of these duties or other job-related duties as assigned.
Major Worker Characteristics: Knowledge of inventory control; safety practices; agency policy and procedures. Skill in equipment operation. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers; work alone on most tasks; demonstrate strength to lift up to 75 lbs., demonstrate strength to move objects from one location another.
Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment: High school diploma or GED with nine (9) months of custodial experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Additional Requirements: No special license or certification required.
