Colorado Education Association company history timeline
The Colorado Education Association (CEA) was founded in 1875 by a handful of educators that came together, voted, and formed the first union for public education workers in Colorado.
By 1921, CEA had nearly 6,000 members, or nearly 84% of all Colorado educators and adopted its first constitution.
CEA became an affiliate of the National Education Association in 1929, making it the 12th largest affiliate in the nation.
In 1931, CEA led an investigation into education financing.
Before 1960, the Colorado Education Association was for administrators only.
In 1966-67 the Colorado Springs Education Association began to fall apart.
In 1968 an effort was made to merge the two teachers’ associations.
About 250 prospective members attended the first annual convention of CASE at Hinkley High School in Aurora in the fall of 1969.
By the summer of 1970, it became apparent practicing school executives could not meet the increasing demands of the organization on a volunteer basis.
On January 5, 1971, Arly Burch joined the association as the first salaried executive secretary.
Art Ludka became the associate director in 1973 to augment the leadership structure of the association.
In 1996, the DES department was renamed the Colorado Association of Educational Specialists (CAES), and school personnel administrators (CASPA) joined CASE that year.
