Responsibilities * Participate in grounds maintenance and the propagation and care of grass, flowers, plants and shrubs; responsible for the aesthetics of the College to include weeding, trimming, refreshing materials, and cleaning up debris and trash as well as total grounds detail responsibility for an assigned area. * Plant, transplant, cultivate, irrigate, spray, and trim a variety of plant life. * Inspect plants, shrubs and grass for symptoms of disease and nutritional deficiencies, prepare mixture of fertilizers, insecticides, and other chemical compounds used in the care of plant life. * Maintain grounds equipment and vehicles. * Identify and perform routine preventive maintenance of campus grounds including flatwork items including asphalt, concrete, and striping. * Proactively remove ice, snow and debris from sidewalks, streets and grounds. * Assist in training, providing work direction, and problem solve for support staff and student workers. * Work as an effective team member by communicating with others, through collaboration and encouragement of others, and assisting others to ensure accomplishment of the goals of the department and college. Minimum Qualifications * High school graduate or equivalent work experience plus a minimum of one year of related experience * Demonstrated success working as a team member * Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds * Knowledge of plant and landscape care * Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions * Knowledge of and ability to use a personal computer * Ability to operate landscaping equipment and utilize basic gardening tools.
