Colorado Springs incorporated as a city on September 2, 1872.
In Colorado Springs, the City’s first constable came on board in 1872, followed by the Marshal’s office.
In accordance with the Colorado State law, as the population of Colorado Springs grew, the constabulary was upgraded to a Marshal's Office in March of 1878.
The Police Department which occupied the basement of City Hall, was later expanded to the main floor in the early 1950's.
