Located in Sonora, California, Columbia College is the primary source of adult learning for residents of Tuolumne County and nearby regions. One of two schools in the Yosemite Community College District, Columbia College offers over 15 vocational education courses in such fields as Child Development, Emergency Medical Services, Forestry and Welding Technology. Columbia also has arts and sciences programs in approximately two dozen subject areas such as Photography, Drama, Earth Science, Math and Psychology. These programs are mostly for those who wish to get a two-year degree and transfer to a four-year university. Since Columbia is an accredited California state community college, students may transfer to any UC or Cal State University. Schools that are closest in proximity to Columbia include Cal State Stanislaus and, slightly farther away, Cal State East Bay and UC Davis. Student services will help you to make this and other decisions, through such divisions as counseling services and the career and transfer center. In addition, Columbia offers online student support. Special support programs provided at Columbia include those for veterans, disabled students, those involved in vocational rehabilitation, or students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Financial aid packages may be discussed with a financial aid counselor and include loans, work-study, grants and scholarships for those who qualify.
