Columbus Castings company history timeline

1881

In 1881, Buckeye Steel Castings began producing iron castings in Columbus, Ohio.

But part of Columbus Castings’ allure is its storied history that dates back to 1881, just 65 years after the city was incorporated.

1902

In 1902, the company switched from manufacturing iron to steel couplings.

It moved once more before settling on Parsons in 1902, spurred by continued rail growth.

1916

By 1916, Buckeye Steel Castings claimed to be "the largest steel foundry in the world" to produce steel castings for railroads.

1917

Buckeye Steel Castings also supported a company baseball team and provided the workers with life insurance in 1917.

2002

In December 2002, the company said it filed for bankruptcy because of a weak rail market and the after-effects of the Sept.

2008

In 2008 New York private equity firm Protostar Partners, which operates a consortium of similar metalworking businesses through Constellation Enterprises LLC, bought the foundry.
