Columbus Regional Health company history timeline
From its inception in 1917 as Bartholomew County Hospital, the health system has grown to serve 10 Southeastern Indiana Counties.
Columbus Regional Healthcare System was founded in 1935 when local physician Doctor Warren Edwin Miller started a 12-bed hospital in a Victorian home in Whiteville.
A major building project in the mid-1960's coupled with an increase in the medical staff, including the addition of several specialists, turned the direction of the hospital outside Bartholomew County.
The current facility was dedicated December 11, 1977, and continues to grow and expand to meet the needs of the community.
In 1990, ground was broken for a building renovation and services expansion program.
After the project was completed, our name was officially changed to Columbus Regional Hospital on September 25, 1992.
In November 2007, the board of trustees selected Atrium Health, (formerly Carolinas HealthCare System) to assume management of CRHS.
On June 7, 2008, Columbus Regional Hospital experienced a disaster on a scale few other hospitals have survived - a flood of historic magnitude severely damaged the hospital, prompting the evacuation of 157 patients, and forcing us to close our doors for the first time in our 90 year history.

In the fall of 2011 the organization introduced Columbus Regional Health, a name that will be applied to many of our locations across the region.
