In 1963, Columbus State Community College opened in Columbus, Ohio.
In 1963, The College relocated to a newly built campus in the MidTown area on what was previously a dairy farm.

By the mid-1970's, Columbus Technical Institute (CTI) faculty began efforts to organize a union to bargain collectively.

After Doctor Nestor died unexpectedly in 1995, faculty hoped for a more enlightened approach to faculty participation in College matters.
In 1996, the school was renamed Columbus State University as part of a program to restructure four-year institutions within the state's university system.
When Doctor Valeriana Moeller was hired as president in 1996, faculty hoped for a more enlightened approach to faculty's role in the College.
In 1999 CSCC faculty had the highest workload in the state-20 contact hours per week compared to an average of 16 hours at other community colleges.
Not the dangerously disproportionate ratio of part-time to full-time faculty. (And although the Board made a commitment to seriously address this issue in 2000, after one year it reduced the number of new faculty positions created to address increasing enrollments.)
By a vote of 105-100, faculty approved union representation on November 1, 2001.
In 2001, Columbus State University witnessed the start of a third wave of growth precipitated by a joint effort between the community and the University, namely the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, home of the Schwob School of Music.
The college grew quickly, with approximately twenty-three thousand students enrolled in 2006.
2006 saw a rapid expansion enabled by donor pledges from the local community toward what became known as the RiverPark campus.
