Columbus State University company history timeline

1958

The university was first called Columbus College when it opened as a junior college in a hosiery mill in 1958.

1963

Columbus College relocated to the midtown area in 1963, building a campus defined by modern architecture on what was previously a dairy farm.

1970

The first four-year class graduated in 1970.

1996

In 1996 the school was renamed Columbus State University as part of a program to restructure four-year institutions within the state's university system.

2001

In 2001, Columbus State University witnessed the start of a third wave of growth precipitated by a joint effort between the community and the University, namely the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, home of the Schwob School of Music.

2006

2006 saw a rapid expansion enabled by donor pledges from the local community toward what became known as the RiverPark campus.

2007

In early 2007, the art and theatre departments moved to the university's newly built RiverPark Campus in downtown Columbus.

2021
