Commander's Palace company history timeline

1893

Commander's Palace, nestled in the middle of the tree-lined Garden District, has been a New Orleans landmark since 1893.

1900

By 1900 Commander's Palace was attracting gourmets from all over the world.

1944

Fearing that the restaurant business would decline from what it had been during World War II, and Giarratano's declining health, in 1944 he sold Commander's Palace to Frank and Elinor Moran, who refurbished it and carried on with an expanded menu including many recipes still used.

1969

In 1969, the famous Brennan restaurant family of New Orleans purchased the restaurant and began a redesign of the interior to complement the outdoor setting.

1974

When Ella, Dottie, Dick and John Brennan took over personal supervision of the restaurant in 1974, they began to give the splendid old landmark a new look both inside and out including painting the outside the iconic "Commander's Blue."

2005

The restaurant suffered extensive damage due to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

2006

After a full renovation, it re-opened on October 1, 2006.

2018

At the end of 2019, Ti Martin looked at the numbers for Commander’s Palace. It was her first year at the helm of the upscale New Orleans restaurant, after the death of her legendary mother, Ella Brennan, in May 2018.

At the end of 2019, Ti Martin looked at the numbers for Commander’s Palace.

2020

In 2020, Commander’s, whose co-proprietors are Ti and her cousin Lally Brennan sailed through January and February, when New Orleans was awash in Mardi Gras revelers.
