Commission on Economic Opportunity company history timeline

1965

The Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO) was formed in 1965 as a private non-profit Community Action Agency.

1966

CEO was incorporated in 1966 as a community action agency to alleviate poverty.

1976

In 1976, CEO sponsored the Foster Grandparent program, which today serves nine counties and over 100 seniors annually throughout eastern New York.

1993

VISTA placed volunteers throughout the country to help fight poverty and to address illiteracy, lack of quality housing, and poor health, among other issues, through work on community projects with various organizations, communities, and individuals (in 1993 it would be folded into AmeriCorps).

2006

The initial program and poverty research agenda was established with the creation of the 2006 Commission for Economic Opportunity.

2014

Operating more than twenty programs with a staff that exceeds 150 full and part-time employees, CEO in 2014 served more than 32,000 individuals.

2017
