A Commissioning Technician is tasked with supervising an engineering project's last stages when systems are being installed and tested. They examine and run tests on equipment, facility systems, and power plants and might need to perform repairs and alterations.

The Technician must create lists to be checked and performance and site observation procedures and tests that need to be followed and applied. They are often the ones to be conducting these tests. Often, they need to familiarise themselves with new technologies and engineering mechanisms. They may also participate in the development of guides and training regimens for the use of these systems and the review of these guides and other documents.

A person hoping to work in this position should generally have an Associate's or Bachelor's in Engineering or a similar subject. Past experience in this or similar positions may be preferred, especially in architecture, engineering, mechanical, and other aspects of building construction. It is also necessary that the individual have a commissioning certification, such as CxA, and a proficiency in certain commissioning software and platforms.
