Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, or willingness and ability to learn procedures necessary for position. Six months environmental services experience preferred, preferably in a health care setting. Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, vendors and the general public. This position may/will be required to provide direct care or have access to resident property or belongings. Continental Safe Haven Located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, the Continental Safe Haven is comprised of 145 beds for individuals not yet ready to transition into permanent housing, as well as those who may have struggled in other housing programs. Continental Safe Haven offers an alternative to life on the street: private, safe, clean, and affordable short-term accommodations. On-site case management and clinical services are available to meet the needs of its residents and to help those ready to move into secure permanent housing. Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the Housekeeper is a part of the department that maintains the common areas of the safe haven. Examples of common areas include offices, multi-purpose rooms, roof deck, garden, trash collection area, lobby, fitness room and sidewalks. Client areas will also be cleaned. This position has a 35-hour work week, onsite. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Sweep, mop, wash, dust, and vacuum Seal, wax, and buff floors and hard surfaces Maintain sidewalks, including sweeping, raking leaves, and shoveling snow Clean individual units when vacated or requested by work order Sort and package recyclables to comply with NYC regulations Operate compactor Set up and clean up for meetings and other events Assist painters and engineers when assigned Perform work at other facilities as required Perform other related duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Comparable work experience Experience operating of vacuum cleaner, high speed buffer Ability to lift and move furniture, appliances, etc. High School Diploma, GED, Trade School Diploma, or equivalent Ability to stand for several hours during shift and to climb stairs in the event of an emergency Experience working with special needs populations a plus Basic knowledge of using a computer is a plus, but is not required
