The duties consist of, but are not limited to the following: * Fire support duties as assigned, including rehabilitation duties during fire incidents * Provide support during mutual aid response, including track resources. * Assist with logistical Situation/Resource Status support * Distribute and recover radio equipment (cache radios and other equipment) * Operate radio equipment at incidents * Provide telephone and fax support at incidents and during emergencies * Assist with the Mobile Command Post and Breathing Support Unit, including setup, operation, shutdown and rehabilitation (upon completion of training) * Drive Communications Support and Breathing Support Units, including setup, startup and shutdown/rehabilitation (upon completion of the appropriate license, certification, and training requirements) * Responsible for the inspection and care, including reporting maintenance issues through the appropriate channels, of the Mobile Communication and Breathing Support Units * Assist in Community Events * Other duties as assigned ABOUT THE DISTRICT The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District is an independent Special District in Contra Costa County responsible for providing a high level of emergency and non-emergency services to the communities it serves. The District's service area encompasses approximately 155 square miles, serving the communities of Alamo, Blackhawk, Danville, Diablo, San Ramon, the southern boundary of Morgan Territory, and the Tassajara Valley. The communities are primarily residential, commercial, office park, and controlled manufacturing, along with wildland areas, protected by nine stations and one volunteer staffed station with 185 employees, and 56 volunteers. Financial oversight and strategic policy direction are provided by an elected 5-member Board of Directors. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Volunteer requirements are: * Minimum Age - 18 years of age * Possession of and ability to maintain a current valid California Driver's License, Class C, is a condition of the program * Maintain a residence within the District, or within 30 minutes of District boundaries * Schedule: Reserves must attend 18 out of the 24 (75%) training meetings per year. Failure to do so may result in the person being dropped from the program. Training meetings are held twice a month usually in the evening hours. In addition, the ability and flexibility to work day/night shifts when needed is important. * Possess the physical ability to carry a minimum of 50 pounds for 500 feet, and work in hot and/or inclement weather for extended periods of time * Must have computer access to the internet and email from home * Basic PC computer and electronics troubleshooting * Understanding of Public Safety radio systems * Strong desire to serve the community Additional Requirements (Optional) - Support Apparatus All outlined minimum requirements in addition to: * Possession and maintenance of a California Firefighter Endorsement * Ability to attend and pass a mandatory District provided Driver Training 1A * Ability to pass a road test and check-off by a District Driving Instructor on the safe operation of assigned apparatus * Availability to conduct a monthly inspection on a rotating basis * Ability to complete reports through the District's Record Management System when the unit is deployed to incidents * There are a limited number of drivers in the program. Drivers will be added to the program on an as needed basis. The selection of drivers may require additional screening depending on the interest and number of available openings.
