In 1986 the Texas Legislature began appropriating seed funding to replicate this innovative and successful model across Texas.

1991

Communities In Schools began operating in Washington in 1991 at the urging of Boeing, Costco and other business and education leaders.

1992

Communities in Schools of Greater Tarrant County (CIS) was founded in 1992 by a United Way taskforce that saw a need for an effective and efficient stay-in-school program.

1993

Communities in Schools of Lakewood (CISL) started operating After-School and Readiness To Learn Programs in 1993 to address the growing number of students who were failing in school.

2012

CIS Henry was formed in 2012 to address the growing number of high school dropouts in the county.

2014

In 2014 the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce named CIS as a “Best Workplace for Women” in the mid-size company category.
