Shelter Advocates are required to work every other weekend and every other holiday. Shelter Advocates who work the holiday are paid time and a half! Our Milwaukee Women's Shelter provides comprehensive services and treatment for women, men, and children whose lives have been affected by domestic violence, addiction, mental health issues, homelessness, and poverty. Our Autumn West Safe Haven provides low-barrier housing for individuals who are currently homeless and experiencing severe and persistent mental health challenges. This position is responsible for the routine operations of the site during the assigned shift, collaborates with all shelter staff, and reports to the Program Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Processing and documenting incoming calls on the 24-hour crisis line/211 Referrals- for potential Homeless families and DV victims and families. Advising Volunteers and Interns on acceptable methods as they relate to the crisis line. Complete intakes and/or outtakes for families residing at the FSC/MWC Shelter. Including: providing tours for families during intakes and cleaning and preparing rooms when residents leave the shelter for the next family Consistently update daily shift reports and keeping Case Managers/Ops Manager/Shelter Manager/Intake Specialist informed Helping to maintain the cleanliness of the shelter and keeping order at all times. . Complete room inspections on each floor. Make rounds every other hour throughout the entire facility to ensure that systems are running safely. Serve as an internal and external liaison by reporting all incident details of the shelter to the Case Managers, Shelter Manager and COO. This also means behaving in a professional manner at all times when interacting with staff, clients, volunteers, interns and community organizations. Function as a team player in order to meet the goals and objectives of the FSC/MWC Shelter and in supporting our mission. Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor. Skills and Qualifications Work and/or volunteer experience related to domestic violence, social work and/or residential programs. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Knowledge and experience in crisis intervention. Sensitivity to the effects of Trauma on survivors Computer experience required. Ability and willingness to work both individually and as part of a team with other staff in provision of services to residents. Verbal and written skills - ability to convey information effectively and as appropriate for the needs of the audience. Active listening - giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Reading Comprehension - understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Time Management - managing one's own time and the time of others. Responsibilities Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Operations Staff - Changeover is responsible for the setup and breakdown of events and facility conversions. This position will work on-site at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Sonnentag Center, a major athletic, recreation, and event center, that opened Summer of 2024. The new Sonnentag Center will serve as a venue for university and community events, concerts, and home to Eau Claire Men's and Women's Athletics. Setup and breakdown events including flooring, seating, tables, stages, ramps, etc. Operate equipment and machinery to aid in setup and breakdown Perform seating, facilities, and event checklists inspections Support Athletics Game Day Staff and Production Report issues to supervisors and management as they arise Assist with cleaning, housekeeping, and light maintenance Follow safety precautions and emergency procedures Attend all staff meetings and trainings and communicate as needed through emails, group messaging, and telephone Qualifications Applicants must be 18 years or older. POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Autumn West Safe Haven Program Manager, the Resident Manager oversees routine operations of the Safe Haven. This position provides consumer support in a 24/7 residential environment for homeless individuals experiencing mental health/co-occurring challenges. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide consistent and reliable coverage for assigned shifts in a primarily unsupervised environment. Attend to general housekeeping needs of common areas, kitchen, bathroom and office areas. Monitor the Safe Haven to help create a safe and therapeutic environment for consumers Conduct rounds throughout the entire building to ensure consumers safety. Perform general administrative functions such as noting within the communication log, answering the phone and responding to in-person inquiries in a professional manner. Report any changes in consumer behaviors, functioning, and other pertinent information to the Program Manager and Care Coordinator. Provides crisis intervention as needed, including determining when it is necessary to involve other staff, administration or emergency personnel. Work independently and monitor security cameras and resident entry/exits. Maintain written and oral communication of incidents in accordance with Safe Haven policies. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in response to unexpected or unusual consumer demands. Attend staff meetings and participate in monthly Resident Manager Meetings. Other duties as assigned by the Autumn West Safe Haven Program Manager QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum High School Diploma or GED required. Understanding and sensitivity to matters relating to homelessness, mental illness and alcohol/drug abuse. The ability to interact comfortably and persuasively with diverse resident, staff and volunteers. The ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries when working with residents. The ability to assess emergency situations and respond effectively. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer experience (Microsoft Office, Excel spreadsheets, etc) is highly desirable. The ability to maintain confidentiality related to consumers care.
