Visual Design Lead, Design Systems
Remote or San Francisco, CA job
About the Role
We're looking for a Product Designer to define and elevate the visual direction of Chime's app experience. This is a role for a visionary design leader - someone who can translate Chime's mission of financial progress into a beautifully crafted, cohesive, and emotionally resonant product. You will drive how our components, patterns, and guidelines scale across our products - ensuring consistency, accessibility, and a best-in-class mobile experience.
You'll set the creative bar for how Chime looks and feels across every interaction. From motion to typography to spatial rhythm, you'll craft a visual language that connects with millions of members while pushing the boundaries of what a financial app can be.
This is not a systems maintenance role - it's a chance to shape the next evolution of Chime's visual identity within the product and lead the future of design craft across our mobile platforms.
The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $176,000 and up to $245,000. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
This role is in-office in San Francisco Monday - Thursday every week.
In this role, you will:
Evolving the design vision for the Chime app - defining the visual language, aesthetic principles, and motion systems that express our brand through product.
Elevate visual craft across product surfaces, driving clarity, emotion, and delight through composition, interaction, and detail.
Create and communicate a clear design direction that influences product strategy, feature development, and creative storytelling.
Inspire and guide designers through critique, mentorship, and collaboration - cultivating an environment where visual excellence thrives.
Partner closely with brand, research, and product leadership to ensure the Chime experience feels cohesive across marketing and product touchpoints.
Push the frontier of design innovation, exploring new patterns, gestures, and visual storytelling opportunities that differentiate Chime.
Advocate for design craft at every level of the organization, championing the value of expressive, high-quality product design.
You'll thrive in this role if you have:
8+ years of experience designing world-class consumer mobile products, with a portfolio that demonstrates exceptional visual and interaction design.
A visionary eye for visual systems - color, motion, typography, and composition - and the ability to bring them together in a cohesive, inspiring way.
Experience setting creative direction for large-scale mobile design efforts that blend product, brand, and motion.
Strong storytelling and communication skills - you can inspire others to rally around a design vision.
Experience mentoring other designers and shaping a culture of creative excellence.
A growth mindset and deep curiosity about how design can shape behavior and emotion.
Proficiency in Figma and modern design tooling (though your strength lies in
what
you design, not
how
the files are built).
