Position Summary:
The Specialty Pharmacy Technician obtains referrals and clinical progress notes, completes prior authorizations, ensures proper documentation in all relevant platforms, communicates with medical staff and patients, and dispenses specialty medication prescriptions in accordance with all applicable practice standards under the direct supervision of a Specialty Clinical Pharmacist.

* Comply with all federal, state and agency regulatory standards as related to specialty pharmacy practice.
* Dispense medicine prescribed to patients according to the instruction/supervision of the specialty Pharmacist. This entails data entry, including insurance input and billing, counting, labeling, and packaging.
* Process third party insurance claims online and complete prior authorizations as necessary.
* Research all available sources and apply available patient assistance programs to ensure patient access to specialty medications
* Answer/triage phone calls from patients and medical staff.
* Answer nonclinical questions for patients or providers, or refer them to the Specialty Clinical Pharmacist
* Arrange all medication shipments and deliveries, including packaging and facilitating deliveries through external vendors and internal couriers, to be executed on time, and in accordance with all internal shipping standards ensuring all temperature sensitive shipped specialty medications meet necessary stability standards. Participate in internal cold chain and other testing procedures, including validation of new shipping supplies
* Perform all necessary calls to patients as part of the refill process; document information in relevant platforms like dispensing software, care planning platform and EMR as necessary.
* Return prescriptions to stock as needed per Pharmacy procedure.
* Obtain referrals and patient consult notes from multiple medical organizations and upload information on to relevant data platforms
* Document relevant patient and outside/internal provider encounters in internal systems like EMR, dispensing software and care planning platform
* Assist with gathering data and compiling reports as directed.
* Order, receive and stock medications and supplies from wholesaler's and/or distributors; manage medication inventory on daily basis including but not limited to all functions related to expired and outdated products for reverse distribution, inventory management system-Datarithm, DSCSA compliance monitoring system Advasur 360, ensure that all on hand quantities of medication within dispensing software are accurate.

Process prescription at point of sale (POS)
File the completed prescriptions alphabetically for pick-up.
Hand out completed refills to the patient when no counseling is necessary.
Operate the cash register and related tasks.
Manage Inventory
Add new and adjust current medication information in the pharmacy system.
Adjust inventory counts as needed.
Receive, process, and organize stock medications.
Process outdates and returns per procedures.
Process daily medication orders
Outdate checks are done at least weekly.
Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
Prepare daily reports as assigned.
Ability to multi-task, manage time, meet deadlines, and remain calm and professional under pressure.
Maintain standards of confidentiality of CC Idaho clients and records
Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA standards.

Responsibilities:
Data entry of electronic, faxed, and verbal prescriptions as per Blink protocols
Handle provider/physician communications including, but not limited to voicemails, outbound and inbound calls
Resolve open issues submitted by a variety of departments, including pharmacists, other technicians, and Incident Coordinator team
Perform all tasks in a safe and compliant manner that is consistent with corporate policies as well as State and Federal laws

Requirements:
Minimum 6 months prior Pharmacy Technician, or similar industry experience required
Idaho or NHA certification required prior to joining or willing to become certified within 120 days of starting employment
Professional phone presence in a support/service capacity
Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn complex new software
Competent in basic pharmacy calculations

Completes quality assurance logs consistently (i.e. refrigerator/freezer temperature, medication room inspections, hood cleaning). Performs the following duties of the unit dose delivery system: Operates the robotic dispensing system and troubleshoots and handles the robots functions. Prepares medications for delivery to automated dispensing machines. Packages unit dose medications. Prepares, delivers, and exchanges unit dose medications. Operates the pneumatic tube delivery device. Restocks medication boxes, specialized trays/kits (i.e. RSI, EMS Narcotic, etc.) and crash carts.
Operates the controlled substance dispensing machine and handles controlled substances in accordance with the department's policies and state and federal laws.
Restocks dispensing machines accurately, timely, and in accordance with the department's policies.
Prepares sterile products using aseptic technique and documents processes in compliance with the department's policies and procedures.
Assists in the preparation of total parenteral nutrition (TPN) solutions.
Prepares cytotoxic agents in compliance with the department's safety procedures.
Handles hazardous materials in compliance with the department's safety procedures.
Enters charges and all credits accurately into the pharmacy computer system.
Assists in orienting and training technicians as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Current PTCB certification preferred.
Virginia Board of Pharmacy technician registration.
Previous work experience (minimum of 1 year) at a pharmacy in appropriate settings is preferred.
