Montage Health history

1934 - On October 19, Grace Deere Velie Harris' Carmel clinic is converted into a 30-bed general community hospital named Peninsula Community Hospital.

1961: Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula is officially adopted as the name of the hospital.

1981: Community Hospital Foundation is created as the parent/holding company for the hospital and related subsidiaries.

1983 - A 42,000-square-foot addition to Community Hospital's main building opens.

1988 - The Outpatient Surgery Center opens.

1991 - The Rehabilitation Services department at Community Hospital is expanded.

1996 - The Family Birth Center opens at Community Hospital, bringing single-room maternity care to local families.

1999 - The Comprehensive Cancer Center opens at Community Hospital, providing state-of-the-art diagnosis, treatment, and support for cancer patients and their families.

2002 - On March 4, Community Hospital's new Breast Care Center begins operating on Cass Street in Monterey.

2003 - Completed in June, a three-story underground parking garage, with 316 parking spaces, is built under the hospital's main entrance, improving parking for patients and visitors.

2004 - Site preparation begins for the Forest Pavilion, which will add 120 new patient rooms, and the South Pavilion, which will add 135,000 square feet and centralize critical-care departments and related services.

2006 - The opening of the South Pavilion in October 2006 greatly expanded our facilities, including a new, advanced Emergency Department, eight new operating suites, and a state-of-the-art ICU.

2007 - Forest Pavilion opens, adding 120 spacious patient rooms, each with a private bathroom and shower, comfortable daybeds for family or visitors who wish to spend the night, and views of the surrounding pine forest or waterfall and Healing Garden.

2009 - Renovations bring an expanded radiology department, two new cardiac cath labs, a new meditation room, and other advancements and improvements.

2010 - Plans for Peninsula Wellness Center are announced.

2012 - Community Hospital is awarded advanced certification for inpatient diabetes care by the Joint Commission.

2013: Aspire Health Plan is founded, offering a unique, one-stop Medicare Advantage plan.

2014 - Community Hospital opens an Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, providing multidisciplinary rehabilitation services to individuals who have suffered an acute illness, injury, or accident resulting in significant functional decline.

2015: The second location of Montage Wellness Center opens, in Salinas.

The foundation's name changed in 2016 from Community Hospital Foundation to Montage Health Foundation.

Since 2017, Montage Health Foundation has helped sustain the work of Montage Health.

2018 - Bertie Bialek Elliott gives $105.8 million to Montage Health to create Ohana, a groundbreaking mental health program for children and young people
