RN Forensic Nursing Examiner ~ Temporary (Per Diem/Miles City) MILES CITY CLINIC - 120.6755 (BILLINGS CLINIC MILES CITY) req9875 Shift: Day Employment Status: Per Diem Hours per Pay Period: 0.01 = per diem (as needed) (Non-Exempt) Starting Wage DOE: Stipend The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) will provide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to adult and pediatric victims of physical and sexual assault. The sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) exam may include a medical-forensic exam, evidence collection, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, photographic documentation, and referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, and may support and participate in legal proceedings. The non-fatal strangulation (NFS) exam may include a medical-forensic exam with evidence collection, photographic documentation, referrals as stated above, and participation in subsequent legal proceedings. The FNE may perform other forensic evaluations and collect evidence as needed. Essential Job Functions * Perform a complete medical forensic examination to include completed head to toe medical assessment for trauma, detailed genital/anal examination; Forensic specimen collection and supportive documentation; Photo documentation of bodily and genital/anal injuries with competent documentation. Demonstrates care for the patient, not just for evidence collection purposes. * Assess patient for mandatory reporting status and report when appropriate. * Maintain chain of custody and adhere to evidence guidelines. * Ensures patient/medical record confidentiality (HIPPA). * Cleans and sanitizes SANE room upon completion of exam. * Participates in periodic case review to include documentation and photographs. * Maintains clinical education hours relevant to sexual assault or forensics. * Takes responsibility for own professional growth and development needs; meets all system/departmental educational requirements. * Demonstrates collaborative, supportive, and caring behaviors in communication with patient's families, visitors, and the interdisciplinary care team. * Consideration is given to the appropriateness of care based on the population specific needs of the patient. * Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization. * Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic's mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Radiology nursing may be for you! What exactly does a radiology nurse do? Radiology nurses assist in a variety of procedures caring for patients from infancy to late adulthood. Modalities covered by radiology nurses include interventional radiology, CT, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and MRI. Nursing assists physicians in providing moderate sedation for most procedures done in radiology. Common procedures include angiograms with intervention, port placements, mass biopsies, pediatric and adult anesthesia cases, and much more. Patient acuity varies from stable to ICU level of care patients making critical care experience preferred. What's the schedule like? In a typical week a nurse will work 4 10 hour shifts and cover a different modality each day creating a unique variety not easily found in other departments. Taking call is also a part of radiology nursing. A nurse is typically on call once a week, from the end of the shift until the beginning of the next morning, and one weekend every 4-6 weekends (depending on total number of nurses in the department). Nurses also divide up holidays to be on call, typically only 1-2 per year.
