JOB SUMMARY: This position is accountable for providing competent nursing care and is responsible for coordination of the patient's plan of care though assessment planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing interventions that lead to established outcomes. Discovery is a 35-bed, acute care medical unit. General duty nursing care is provided to the acutely ill pediatric patient on Discovery. Primary population served include GI patients, Infectious Diseases, Metabolic Diagnosis, and acute viral illnesses. Patient Care Services are provided utilizing the LEGACY care delivery model of care. The RN delivers and coordinates care in a collaborative manner with unlicensed staff, as well as staff from other disciplines. SUMMARY: This position is accountable for providing competent nursing care for patients with common health problems, and is expected to deliver competent patient care to a full patient assignment. Valley Children's Healthcare's multidisciplinary approach creates a dynamic team of pediatric surgeons, both general and specialty-based, working together to generate optimal outcomes. These include complex plastic surgery, neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, orthopaedics and urology. REQUIREMENTS: A) a graduate from an accredited nursing program. Explorer has central monitoring capabilities and 4 rooms with negative pressure capabilities. Explorer utilizes Valley Children's Healthcare L.E.G.A.C.Y. The Emergency Department at Valley Children's provides emergency pediatric and trauma care to infants, children, and adolescents (up to 21 years of age). We operate a 39-bed Level II Pediatric Trauma Center that sees about 120,000 patient visits annually. More than two-thirds of the Hospital's patients are admitted through the Emergency Department. We have access to all of the Hospital's pediatric subspecialties and their associated physicians. The Department is staffed by board-certified pediatric emergency physicians. In addition to their years of experience in providing pediatric emergency care, our emergency specialists have undergone a minimum of three years of general pediatric training plus an additional two to three years of fellowship training in pediatric emergency medicine. This 36-bed unit has 14 rooms with central monitors, to closely monitor patients with increased needs for respiratory support and intervention. The Clinical Research Nurse, ensures that the health and safety of research participants and the integrity and quality of clinical trials, are maintained and conducted in accordance with federal, state, IRB, departmental, and institutional regulations, policies and procedures. The Clinical Research Nurse will primarily provide nursing expertise and care to research study patient management with primary focus on bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapy clinical trial protocols. They will ensure compliance to study protocols, may participate in feasibility evaluation, recruitment, consenting and enrollment activities, perform medical tests and procedures to facilitate study patient visits, provide investigational medication education and training, administer treatments, support side effect and adverse event monitoring, coordinate data collection, documentation and reporting, as applicable. In collaboration with research teams, they will support and provide direction in internal and external monitoring and auditing activities. They will serve as a liaison and work closely with investigators, department members, study sponsors, IRB and the institution, to support administration of compliance, financial, personnel and other related aspects of all ongoing clinical studies. Additional duties may be assigned to support incoming projects, department, and institutional needs. In collaboration with multidisciplinary researchers, they may drive research programs through nursing lens and perspective to integrate new advances in clinical trials management. The role requires excellent planning and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work in a changing, multiple-demand setting in order to prioritize a large volume of work and meet deadlines efficiently and accurately. Strong interprofessional collaboration, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work with a diverse group of people, including physicians, patients and families, are essential. In the absence of the unit Director and/or Manager, the Clinical Supervisor may assume the administrative scope of the unit assigned. Develops and implements departmental plans, including performance improvement activities and compliance with current federal and/or state regulations. The Clinical Supervisor prepares, conducts and/or oversees department(s) orientation and training of personnel. Communicates with staff, physicians, and administration both written and verbally. The Clinical Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the quality of staff and functions during their shift. Assists the Department Director in the daily operation of the unit, directing, supervising, and evaluating personnel, ensuring the proper use of time, equipment, and staff. Ensure the efficient functions of the department. Performs direct patient care, only as needed, within the scope practice.
