Community Resource Center company history timeline
Community Resource Center (CRC) was founded in 1981.
Founded in 1982, Second Harvest is the largest regional hunger-relief organization, with a network of more than 110 member agencies serving Crawford, Erie, Huron and Lorain Counties.
By 1984, the mission expanded to encompass the broad range of nonprofit organizations and community groups that provide services throughout Colorado.
Developing the DuPage P.A.D.S. sheltering program (now an independent organization) in 1985 to address large-scale homelessness
In 1986, CRC founded Community Shares of Colorado to challenge United Way’s workplace giving monopoly and to provide fundraising opportunities for the vast majority of nonprofits.
The Community Resource Centre (CRC) was established in 1987 as a project of Women Initiating Responsible Change, a non-profit corporation.
Community Resource Services was founded in 1988 by a small group of concerned volunteers who wanted to address the growing need among community residents for health and welfare assistance.
That dream was realized with the funding of the first Toy Bus in 1989.
The CRC was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in September 1991 and continued to manage and deliver a variety of projects, developing many County-wide initiatives and services as well as local, neighbourhood services.
In 1995, CRC received The Samaritan Institute Award from the Colorado Ethics in Business Awards Committee for illustrating the importance of ethical values in its community work.
One of the high points of CRC’s history was the purchase of the building at 15 Lake Street (formerly Burke’s Jewellers) in 1997.
Establishing computer access and training programs in 1997 to teach digital literacy
In 2001, CRC established an online version of the Colorado Grants Guide with a searchable database that is continuously updated.
By 2003, SOS8 had become an independent 501(c)(3), led by a board of Section 8 tenants, with its own staff and office.
In 2003, CRC launched NPower Colorado in 2003 as a technology resource center for nonprofit organizations.
Developing a jobs program in 2006 to provide mentors and training for those searching for a new job or wanting to learn new skills
In 2008, CRC started a $105,000 Endowment through the Denver Foundation, using funds created by the Steve Graham Memorial Fund.
In response to increasing demands on the food pantry, CRS became a member agency of the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio in 2008.
Opening a second location in the county's Southeast section to respond to the growing need and changing demographics in DuPage following the 2008 recession
Miracles Relied Upon: A History of the People's Resource Center was written and published in 2012 by longtime PRC leaders Margaret and Warren Roth.
Purchasing a larger, permanent site in Westmont to provide services to those in Southeast DuPage in 2014.
