Luther College will also further assist students who, after receiving their financial aid package, still require additional aid by supplying information on how to apply for outside scholarships. Admissions to Luther are competitive. Many admitted students have an ACT score between 24 and 20 and are in the top 25% or top 50% of their class. Seed Savers Exchange was founded in 1975 by Diane Ott Whealy and Kent Whealy to honor this tradition of preserving and sharing. Their collection started when Diane's terminally-ill grandfather gave them the seeds of two garden plants, Grandpa Ott's morning glory and German Pink tomato. Grandpa Ott's parents brought the seeds from Bavaria when they immigrated to St. Lucas, Iowa in the 1870s.
