In addition to rigorous academics, Saint Francis University has numerous institutes and centers devoted to intellectual advancement, as well as a strong community service program and additional student life opportunities. Graduate programs are available in such specializations as Medicine, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. At the undergraduate level, academics are offered through distinctive schools. The school of Arts and Letters grants degrees in everything from Literature to Religion to Social Work. Science programs include majors in Marine Science, Environmental Studies, Zoology, Engineering and Pharmaceutical Sciences. There is also a school of Health Sciences and a Business School. Centers of Study located on campus, such as the Center for the Study of Government and Law and the Science Outreach Center, sponsor academic clubs, competitions and other student activities and also engage with the community by providing, among other things, classes in the local schools. The Institute for Contemporary Franciscan Life is the adult-learning division of Saint Francis, which gives adult students the chance to earn a degree through various distance-learning programs. Since Saint Francis is a Franciscan Catholic school, there is a strong emphasis on service to the community and the school actually enforces a service-learning requirement. Some of the ways in which students engage in service are by helping the handicapped, the elderly, at-risk children and the homeless. Other student life activities include entertainment such as film screenings, comedy shows and stage performances. There are also plenty of social and cultural clubs. Transcripts, SAT or ACT scores and a personal essay are some of the documents required by admissions. Financial aid is available through various sources to qualifying individuals.
