Comprehensive Behavioral Health Center company history timeline

1957

The Comprehensive Behavioral Health Center was founded in February 1957 by a group of private citizens in collaboration with the St Clair County Mental Health Association.

1969

The South Bergen Mental Health Center became a reality in 1969, with many members of the Lyndhurst Junior Women's Club seated on the original board of trustees.

1973

The Bobby E. Wright Comprehensive Behavioral Health Center, Inc. (B.E.W.) was originally incorporated as the Garfield Park Comprehensive Community Mental Health Center, Inc. in 1973.

1976

By 1976 the Garfield Park Comprehensive Community Mental Health Center received a Department of Health, Education and Welfare grant to promote and strengthen the concept of community mental health services.

1980

In 1980, the initial planning began for the construction of a new facility, funded by the Department of Housing & Urban Development, to provide supervised housing for the chronically mentally ill.

1981

Recognizing the need to continually improve services, the Center sought funding through the State of Illinois Community Block Grant in 1981 to expand existing mental health services.

The closing of the community-based Alcohol and Drug Treatment facility in 1981 created a serious void for the community.

1982

Following Doctor Wright's death in 1982, the agency was named the Bobby E. Wright Comprehensive Community Mental Health Center.

In 1982, Red Rock BHS partnered with New Horizons to provide Area Resource Prevention in Clinton.

1984

The need to provide support to parenting teens in 1984 started The Center’s Parenting For Success Program.

1990

In 1990, Red Rock Clinton Crisis Unit opens in partnership with New Horizons.

1995

On April 19, 1995, Red Rock BHS responds to the Murrah Federal Bombing within the hour and delivered over 1,000 free services in the first month.

2001

In 2001, Red Rock West provided Systems of Care (SOC) services for at-risk youth and families.

2002

In 2002, Red Rock BHS launched one of the first Program for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) in Tulsa for the state.

2003

In 2003, Chisholm Trail Counseling Centered merged into Red Rock BHS, adding 3 new counties & 2 outpatient offices.

2006

In 2006, Red Rock Norman Crisis Unit opened with 26 beds in response to a request by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS).

2007

Red Rock BHS received its 5th CARF Accreditation in 2007.

2008

Red Rock BHS became the 1st CMHC to provide Telemedicine in 2008.

2016

In 2016, Red Rock BHS was one of three Oklahoma agencies chosen for the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) demonstration project as a result of Excellence in Mental Health Act passed by Congress.

2019

In Spring 2019, Red Rock BHS officially launched the Individual Placement & Support (IPS) program.
