Responsibilities
Knowledgeable of all aspects of medical physics in radiation therapy including brachytherapy, SRS, SBRT, radiation shielding, treatment planning, radiation safety and regulatory compliance. Assures performance of an annual output check of each beam to verify their consistency with national standards and prepares a report on this process and its results.

Initiates and routinely reviews all treatment equipment operational logs and service reports.
Performs clinical QA of equipment specifications, acceptance testing, commissioning and calibrations on all new and repaired clinical equipment, and the lead shielding requirements of rooms.
Participates in quality assurance checks and performance improvement initiatives.
Participates in routine QA of patient treatment records.
Develops and performs departmental physics QA program
Maintains and documents the inventory of all radioactive materials and returns used materials in a timely manner.
Acts as Department Radiation Safety Officer and assists in radiation safety tasks.

Oversees technical aspects of dosimetrist's and technologist's activities.
Provides technical in-services as necessary for the demonstration of new techniques and other appropriate subjects.

The physicist also assists in matters of protection of patients and staff from radiation in the Department of Radiation Oncology. Responsible for overall functioning of radiation therapy equipment, radiation safety considerations and operational aspects of the WellStar Radiation Oncology facilities. Our OhioHealth Physics team is expanding! We are looking to add a new Physics position to support our growth of an additional care site. The successful candidate will work as an integral part of the OhioHealth Radiation Oncology team. This job will be primarily working at our care sites within Columbus, OH. We offer a hybrid work environment to our Physicists. Due to the timing of the opening of our new facility, the earliest start date for this position would be March 2026 but are certainly open to Residency candidates to start later.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
· Provide clinical Physics support to our care sites, including daily operations, routine quality assurance activities, support for SBRT, SRS, HDR, and cardiac brachytherapy, chart checks, support department adherence to policies and procedures, and all aspects of participation in clinical trials.
· Participation in the development and implementation of new treatment techniques and new technologies.
· Although each of us has a home base and a primary care site for which we are responsible, our large group provides collaborative cross-coverage support for the team. We also provide rotating weekly chart check coverage remotely.

The Oncology Physicist is primarily engaged in ensuring high standards in the planning /optimization, delivery and evaluation of radiation therapy and in this capacity is responsible for ensuring the accurate and consistent performance of radiological equipment and for verifying the accuracy and adequacy of treatment plans and dose calculations. The Clinical Medical Physicist also acts as the clinic's primary resource for ensuring the safe use of radiation.Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Ensures that all radiation oncology treatment, simulation machines and all sealed brachytherapy sources are correctly calibrated according to accepted protocols. Assists with the implementation of a comprehensive program for quality control of the radiation-producing equipment to assure their constant acceptable performance for patient safety and treatment efficiency.
Assists the Chief Physicist with determining technical specifications for selection of new equipment, supervising installation of new equipment, supervising the installation of new equipment, performing acceptance testing upon completed installation, and measuring performance parameters to ensure the accurate clinical implementation of new equipment.
Implements and quality assurance of appropriate procedures for the planning and delivery of radiotherapy, including technical specifications/tolerances as well as the flow of procedures entailed in the process (including supervision and QC review of treatment plans and dose calculations).
Manages a comprehensive system for error prevention, including a method to learn from incidents (including “near misses”) with a focus on improving the process to minimize the risk of future incidents; ensures that clinical and physics procedures are subjected to a risk-informed assessment designed to minimize risks to patient and staff.
Servers as a resource for training and continuing education for all Radiation Oncology staff.
Position Requirements:
Master's Degree required.
Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics required from:
The American Board of Radiology or
The American Board of Medical Physics or
The Canadian College of Physics in Medicine
CPR Certification preferred.
Experience as a radiation oncology medical physicist required, including clinical experience with linac calibrations and QC, treatment planning system QC and routine use, sealed isotope therapy and radiation safety, IMRT planning and delivery, computer systems quality control, and medical physics program documentation.
Job may require up to 50% of local travel.
