Computer consultant job description

• Provide technical expertise on cloud cluster computing techniques and technologies and expert advice to the program, and related cloud computing architectures. Optimize memory management identifying the best ways to develop distributed cluster-enabled and graph processing algorithms.
• Assist customers with data integration and migration efforts, including mapping schemas, performing RDF translations, and defining domain specific ontologies, where applicable. Develop large data technologies, algorithms, and applications for clients.
• Research, evaluate, and deploy advanced cloud computing systems and large data analytics for clients in research and production areas. Work with massive data sets, complex algorithms, and team members from a variety of specialties to solve clients' hardest problems.
• Support a range of clients from front line analysts to researchers and senior leadership.
• Work as a key contributor on a collaborative, fast-growing, and highly skilled software development team.
• Experience with information extraction and analysis techniques, practices, and algorithms.
• Knowledge of a variety of advanced computer science and mathematical concepts, practices, and procedures associated with the analysis of large datasets, from indexing schemes to statistical tests-Knowledge of Cloud computing, Hadoop or MapReduce, Netezza, Vertica, BigTable, Pig, Teradata, or Amazon Web Services-Ability to obtain a security clearance.
• Experience with data mining or machine learning preferred. Apply expert knowledge in computer science, particularly in the Semantic Web and cloud computing environments.
• Bachelors Degree with 10+ Years experience, Masters Degree with 8+ Years experience , PhD Degree with 5+ Years of experience.
• Active Top Secret Clearance required with the ability to obtain a higher level clearance if needed.

This is a non-benefit eligible temporary position for approximately 14 weeks during the summer months. The ability to work in a high stress, fast paced environment is required. Consultant will be supporting computing on campus for all members of the college community as well as alumni, parents and off campus users. Consultant will also provide computing support to the languages schools on the Vermont campus. Speaking knowledge of any of the languages is a plus. Evening and weekends required

Technically oriented position needing people with the ability to work in a high stress, fast-paced environment supporting computing on and off campus for all members of the college community as well as alumni, parents, and Language Schools.
Key Responsibilities
• Resolve technology problems (over the phone, in person, helpdesk Zoom and via email)
• Help maintain computer labs around campus
• Must attend weekly student meeting via Zoom
• Strong customer service skills are essential to this position
• Working knowledge of Windows and mac OS
• Working knowledge of mobile devices
• Willingness to learn the workings of Middlebury network, wireless and resources.
• Willingness to search for problem-solving techniques
• Promptly and reliably receives and acknowledges requests for technical support from faculty, staff, and students, ensuring compliance with SLAs. It is expected that most issues will be resolved on first contact.
• Researched issues that are not resolved on first contact using the knowledge base and web resources. Consultants fully document steps taken for the unresolved issues and escalates them properly.
• 35 hour a week commitment throughout the summer. Weekend and evening work required.

This position relies on a well-functioning team but also calls for working independently. As a computer consultant, you represent all of ITS as we are the front-line. All walk-in, Zoom in and call in customers start with the Service Desk. Professional conduct is required at all times.

Consultants need some level of technical knowledge as well as the ability to seek information from others as part of a collaborative team. Additionally, they need to be motivated, punctual, and maintain composure under pressure. Consultants will provide support for information technology services that are reliable, secure and able to provide end-users with the critical information and applications needed to support teaching, learning, research, and the operations of the Middlebury enterprise.

Requirements

Experience
Minimum of 2 years experience as a Student Computer Consultant
. Prior summer employment with ITS.
