Position Summary:
Commonwealth Charter Academy (CCA) has created a state-of-the-art Technology/STEM focused program to inspire the next generation of innovators in the workforce. CCA's 3 tier approach highlights the major industries in Pennsylvania; Agriculture, Technology, and Medicine. TechWorks, located in Pittsburgh, is an exploration & discovery lab at the newly renovated Pittsburgh Family Service Center. Hands-on and remote learning opportunities are available for students at all grade levels with cutting edge robotics, drones, coding, cyber security and manufacturing anchoring the program. Through our vast network of business partnerships and community outreach programs TechWorks will further enhance student learning with real-world skills through projects and internships.
The TechWorks Computer Science and Coding (CS/C) Lab Coordinator will work in coordination with the Director of TechWorks, other lab coordinators, and classroom teachers to provide authentic, project-based and remote learning opportunities for our K-12 students. CCA is continuing to develop a computer science/coding/IT/cybersecurity pathway for our learners and is seeking a candidate with the passion, vision, energy, skill, and experience to help take our program to the highest level. In this role, the Coordinator will help students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for career success in the Computer Science (CS), Information Technology (IT) and/or cybersecurity fields. S/He will also coordinate the student tech crew and oversee independent study opportunities for our students seeking various industry certifications and credentials. The ideal candidate will understand how to provide rigor and extended learning experiences within the context of a progressive learning environment. The strongest candidates will have experience working with faculty members and students in a diverse learning context that features an interdisciplinary, project-based, and a hands-on exploration approach.
The position reports to the Director of TechWorks and is a 12-month salaried position.
Specific Responsibilities:
Plan and implement high-quality, engaging, computer science lessons and activities that are differentiated to meet the learning needs of the students and that include general knowledge in computing & the internet, app and web design, designing & analyzing algorithms, coding, digital citizenship, cybersecurity, and hands-on performance tasks/projects. Empower students to take charge of their learning by providing all necessary scaffolding, modeling, materials, and resources, and consistently maintain a high level of expectation for student success. Engage students in making and designing their own independent learning. Collaborate with other faculty and staff members to plan, integrate, and facilitate cross-curricular, inquiry-based projects. Partner with teachers to further develop TechWorks integrated activities into lessons. Provide informative, guided tours for guests of TechWorks. Work with students on individual or small group projects within the lab. Provide technical expertise to students and lab guests regarding best use of the technology. Actively co-create a culture that is committed to being at the leading edge of K-12 education. Use documentation, presentations, and speaking to make learning visible to the children, parents, and community involved in TechWorks. Further develop, build, and define the TechWorks lab space-particularly in regards to computer science, coding, IT and cybersecurity. Work to keep lab organized and well-stocked and the equipment up to date and maintained. Develop safety and maintenance guidelines for teachers, students and guests. Facilitate summer camps and other outreach opportunities Build skills needed to enter the workforce directly upon graduation Establishes an active partnership with local industry to stay abreast of current and improved techniques, trends, and products. Recruit staff to assist with TechWorks activities Attend related-conferences yearly and participates in training as required to maintain knowledge and stay informed of industry trends Perform other duties as assigned.

This job operates in an indoor lab facility. The employee will be working directly TechWorks staff and with students/staff/community members in the field. They will be working with equipment, machines, technology, computers and networking equipment, etc.
Physical Demands
This job operates in a professional office environment which primarily requires the ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time while online. However, this can be a physical role, which requires the ability to lift, squat, or bend when working with equipment in the lab. Ability to travel to other sites/locations as needed.

Required Education and Experience
Minimum of an Associate degree in an IT or computer-related major and a minimum of 1 year of experience in performing duties as indicated below or equivalent combination of training, certification, and/or experience Must have a basic understanding of LAN/WAN configuration Must understand TCP/IP and the OSI model Must have solid understanding of subnetting Must understand and/or have experience with Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Wi-Fi, Switches, Routers, Firewalls, Web Filters, Mapping Drives, Shared Folders, Folder Permissions, Security, VPN, and AV Equipment Network wiring skills Basic PC and network diagnostic skills. Experience with a variety of programming languages Experience working in a predominantly Windows PC environment, but experience with Linux products is a plus Experience with installing operating systems and/or imaging computers Ability to setup and maintain AV equipment Ability to work independently with little management or direction Ability to lift/move computers and IT equipment for setup
Preferred Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree and prior teaching experience preferred. Certifications preferred; CompTIA A+ certifications, Linux certification, CISCO CCNA Be willing to undergo Instructor Training. Five (5) years' experience in the area of computer networking and repair, computer security background desired.
