Training Delivery and Workshops Management:

* Responsible for managing and executing trainings and workshops for our client full time employees using the Lab and associated equipment, including lab operations and safety procedures
* Schedule and provide training for employees on different equipment available in the lab
* Work with Single Board Computers and assist teams develop small prototypes.
* Support planning and execution of specialized training/workshop that will be conducted by specialized trainers. For these sessions, the lab manager will seek registrations from the Garage Community interested in attending the training, manage logistics for the session with the help of the operations team (blocking conference room, arranging training kits (wherever required) and sending training calendar invite)
* Plan and schedule training sessions for the Garage Community
* Provide lab support to projects that seek help, set up Demos
* Schedule, Manage and conduct Garage Tours for External Visitors and Publicizing the Garage activities
* Support client Global Hackathons. The Global Hackathon is planned by the Garage team, which includes pre-Hack preparation activities, 24*7 support during the Hackathon duration, and management of a Science Fair. The execution of the entire series of events, based on the plan provided by the Garage team will be DXC responsibility. Strategy, planning, theme allocation etc., will be client Responsibility.

Lab Maintenance:

* Inspect lab and secure that lab facilities are maintained
* Enable maintenance of major equipment is updated and completed on time (especially laser cutter and 3D printer).
* Confirm that lab users are informed about the safety and security measures required to be undertaken within the lab.
* Corroborate lab inventory check of major items and make sure to see all the lab equipment properly managed & inventoried
* Maintain inventory of items issued to users for use & experimentation within the lab, check that the equipment is properly and safely used.

Communication:

* Provide content for website and DL to reflect the working projects, Garage workshops, equipment, and training
* Create draft communication mailers to all Makers (Garage Community Members) about upcoming events and trainings
* Answer user queries promptly on all platforms, and maintain all communication channels

General:

* Planning and Executing tech refresh (Identify and order new equipment, consumables etc.) for the Garage
* Managing Procurement related activities associated with the Labs and the workshops/events, including PO creation. Work with Finance to verify that the Vendor Payments, accrual for PO etc. happen on time
* Manage all internal communications related to the Garage lab, events, workshops
* Plan and manage the External Communication and Branding activities

Who you are:

* 1 or more years of field support experience
* Experience working with the company's hardware, software and equipment products
* Experience working with customer technology and support requirements

Job Description Summary:


The School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Department of Computer Science are committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty and staff. The mission of the Department of Computer Science is to serve the global community by providing high-quality computer science education, high-impact research, and professional services. . The Department of Computer Science is seeking a Laboratory Manager (System Administrator) that supports this mission by working with faculty, staff, and students on a broad range of complex education and research laboratory and support tasks related to the administration of computing facilities. This role also trains and directs employees and students in system administration, including network administration, software installation and security policies.

This senior level individual contributor provides functional leadership within a laboratory or studio setting for running a laboratory. Typically this position runs small labs independently in order to support research and other academic endeavors by effectively utilizing resource allocation and planning for labs or studios. This position staffs the lab, orders, maintains, and oversees setup of equipment, maintains safety protocols and handles most other administrative and operational needs in support of the lab.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Manages, maintains and deploys educational and research laboratory software systems, including cluster servers and cloud services. Support and maintain multiple Linux, Windows and Mac servers running various services. Performs continuous assessment of laboratories and recommends solutions and updates.
  • Ensures continuous, resilient operation of the research and educational laboratories, including supervision and training of the laboratory student worker technicians. Creates and delivers standard and online training programs for faculty and teaching assistants on the use of the respective software environments, networks, and servers.
  • Coordinates with the faculty teaching Computer Science and computing courses requiring the use of the computing laboratories. Engages in installing, testing, and maintenance of various software packages, virtualization technologies, operating systems, and including auto-graders, web/database tools, course specific software and Unix/Linux environments. Helps and supports students in installation of such software on their equipment.
  • Assists with establishing practices and guidelines for laboratories, and interacting with GWU facilities & other GWU services, including IT. Helps to coordinate organization and maintenance of lab equipment/space, in conjunction with staff and faculty.
  • Coordinates purchasing specialized research and classroom equipment. Organizes and maintains equipment and software manuals and similar documentation.
  • Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.



Minimum Qualifications:


Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline plus 5 years of relevant professional experience or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
