    The primary purpose of a Machinist is to setup and operate all machines in the Service Center in order to produce precision parts and instruments. The position applies knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures. The position may require routine machine maintenance and programming capabilities. Essential Job Functions: Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers. Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines. Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work. Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process. Work from drawings, work orders, and instructions covering production parts or tooling requirements. Machine parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders. Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machining tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations. Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers. Set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized CNC machine control media. Position and fasten work pieces. Maintain Service Center machines (Haas, FPT, VBM, and Toshiba), applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. Marginal Job Functions: Work with Production Supervisors to train and develop new personnel when needed. Record time and production on paper and computerized systems. Physical Demands & Abilities: Must be able to lift up to a maximum of 50 lbs. Must have Near Vision, Multilimb Coordination, and Manual Dexterity Physical Abilities. Supports: Shop Managers, Production Supervisors, Product Line Managers Minimum and Preferred Qualifications: High School Degree or equivalent minimally required. 2 Year Technical Degree or completion of Relevant Apprenticeship program required. Lead in Training, Programming, etc.); + Change dull tooling, and/or make minor offsets and adjustments as needed for tooling wear; + Ensure product quality is achieved by working to operator owned quality (OOQ) standards and requirements including using a range of measuring equipment and interpreting readings; + Propose adjusted speeds and feeds for different machining requirements; + Perform routine maintenance as per daily machine checklist and adhere to preventive maintenance (PM )schedule; + Perform hand finishing; + Follow Good Manufacturing and Good Document Practices (GMP/GDP) at all times including completion of job routers/ cards; + Ensure safe working practices are carried out to minimize risks to the job holder and/or colleagues, including identifying and reporting Safety, Health & Environmental issues; + Achieve set productivity targets and identify ways of improving productivity; + Record all activities in a timely manner on the job tracking system; + Identify and support Continuous Improvement activities; + Identify and escalate manufacturing issues to the Team Leader and/or Supervisor, participating in the resolution as required; + Maintain 5S/housekeeping standards within work area; + Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by supervisor. **Qualification Requirements** **Educational/Training Requirement:** + High School diploma or general education degree (GED); Associates degree/certificate in Tooling & Machining or Machinist apprenticeship preferred. + GCSE/NVQ Maths and English is desirable (UK only) **Experience:** + Experience of working in a production environment (E/D) **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:** + Ability to operate, set up, program and maintain a CNC Machine + Ability to run multiple CNC Machines + Ability to set up, adjust/alter program and operate and run development and production jobs + Solid necessary math skills, including measuring and keeping count records + Effective at planning, prioritizing and organizing tasks and activities with the ability to deal with competing demands within specified timescales + Able to read and follow technical drawings and diagrammed instructions + Proven record of quality, on-time production runs + Demonstrable commitment to safety at all times + Attention to detail alongside ability to perform repeatable task over a prolonged period of time + Able to perform physically demanding work-standing, bending, lifting 25 lbs regularly + Positive attitude, reliable, and a team player + Problem solving ability + Good communication skills, written and verbal + Solid computer skills **Other Requirements** **Mental Requirements:** The work environment is representative and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations. **Physical Requirements:** While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be required to stand.
