Position Summary:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager within ITW's Residential & Renovation Division, the Machine Operator will be responsible for the setup, operation, and preventive maintenance of equipment to produce tooling according to quality specifications in an efficient and safe manner. This role is located onsite at the organization in Lake Forest, IL.
Primary Responsibilities:
Drives safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations including identifying safety hazards.
Produces machined parts by setting up and operating a Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Mill and Electro Discharge Machines (EDM).
Plans machining operations by studying production schedule and setup sheets.
Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
Runs Mill and EDMs by loading appropriate materials and running the correct programs.
Maintains sharp tools and adequate stock for removal in fixtures, changes as needed.
Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
Manages shipments of finished tooling to secondary processes and manufacturing sites.
Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
Participates in continuous improvement by thinking of ways to perform work safer, faster, or with better quality.
Performs 6S activities and improvements as required
Works with other team members and participates in team events and meetings.

Work Environment:

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Responsibilities
Machine operation involves loading and tending runs of parts, or performing one-step operations on individual parts
Positions and secures tools in holding device, machine tables, chuck, centers, and fixtures
Verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications
Reads blueprints, job orders, tooling instructions, and standard charts for such specifications as dimensions, tolerances, and tooling instructions
Understand and perform to all quality regulations, standards and policies, including but not limited to ISO 9001:2015 and AAR M-1003. Follow work procedures and ensure highest level of quality
Indexes turret and adjusts positions of tools at each station in relation to work piece to assure clearance between moving parts and machining of specified dimensions and tolerances
Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required
Pressure test parts according to drawing or work procedure.
Performs housekeeping duties including 5S, coolant replacement, and TPM
Must be able to perform simple inspection using calipers, micrometers, and other miscellaneous gages
Qualifications/Requirements
2+ years of experience operating a multi-axis CNC lathe machines
Must have working and operation knowledge of Fanuc and OSP CNC Conrollers
Use standard hand and pneumatic tools, as well as calipers, micrometers, drop gauges

Ability to follow work instructions and safety requirements

Qualifications
Two (2) years of work experience or apprenticeship is required. Knowledge of set up and operations of CNC machines a plus. Ability to weld is a plus. Employee required having own tools.
Knowledge of English language. Employee may be required to follow other job -related instructions and perform other job- related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws. Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions and procedures. Work with moderate supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS-
Set up equipment, install tools and fixtures. Monitor entire run due to unique forgings.
Run production, monitoring CNC machines/ lathes / mills / saws. Check parts throughout run making necessary adjustments to conform to specifications.
Verify blueprint and dimensions. Identify forgings and material type. Read and understand entire part routing.
Visually inspect, layout and prepare materials as required. Examine material visually for flaws, defects and clean up.
Calculate chain and strap adjustments to ensure the safe lifting and transporting of parts.
Load material into machine utilizing overhead crane and secure to ensure safe machining on forgings that can exceed 100,000 lbs.
Prior to loading part, identify forgings, material type, and verify blueprint and dimensions. Examine material visually for flaws, defects and clean-up.
Actively participate in safety program to ensure the continued success of the program.#1811

JOB SUMMARY:
CNC Machinist II is a mid-level position to perform lathe and mill tasks, continue to learn all aspects of CNC operations, the trade and, as a part of the Production Team, fill in as needed in other areas in support of manufacturing. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities necessary to meet the minimum job requirements of this position. Manufacture parts within a cell with multiple machines to exacting blueprint dimensions and ensure 100%-part quality. Performs simple set-ups on both manual and CNC turning / milling machining centers. Edit CNC programs as necessary to improve the machining process and extend tool life while meeting production rates.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs simple or repeat set-ups and operates equipment to produce high quality parts (100% good pieces) within prescribed routed time to meet production demands. If standard production rates cannot be met, the operator must notify his supervisor.
Follows documented set-up sheets according to established procedures.
Knowledgeable in basic GD&T and its application relative to part manufacture and inspection.
Read and understand drawings to effectively manufacture parts to close tolerances.
Maintains equipment via established preventative maintenance schedules.
Follows all prescribed quality procedures and inspection plans.
Performs 1st piece inspections and monitors own work to meet process requirements including fully documenting inspections reports developed by the Quality department.
Verifies that the inspection equipment being utilized is in calibration and performs a simple daily check against a known master to ensure the accuracy of the gage to be used.
Maintain safe operations by identifying safety risks and adhering to safety procedures, requirements and regulations. Knowledgeable with tool / insert selection and utilizing the correct feeds and speeds for the materials being machined.
Helps train new individuals in basic CNC operations.
Any additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Two to three years CNC Milling / Turning experience in a job shop environment.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

- Interpret work orders, flow sheets, and part drawings to understand job requirements
- Inspect blueprint dimensions using manual gauges

- Pull and verify correct materials from staging area per WOPAC
- Set up and operate 3-axis mills and basic 2-axis lathe work
- Upload/download CNC programs from programmer to machine

- Maintain a clean, organized workspace following 5S principles
