POSITION DESCRIPTION
The NC Programmer plans machining sequences and fixturing for 3-5 axis machine tools.
The following essential job functions are performed as an NC Programmer:
Determines methods, cutter types and cutting parameters depending on a variety of materials (composites, epoxies, steel, aluminum, etc.) and design specifications
Designs 3-D computer models, drawings and specifications for fabrication of fixturing elements
Creates 3-5 axis tool paths utilizing Unigraphics CAD/CAM software, preferably Simens NX
Provides input in production tracking software
Works with process engineers on planning of manufacturing process to ensure that quality and design objectives are achieved
Creates shop documentation for setup of the machines complying with ISO 9000 standards
Analyzes laser-tracking data to assure quality of the setup, when applicable
Works with the machinists to make sure setup and machining procedures are followed
Perform tool path verification using Vericut software
General knowledge of standard G-Code language, machine offsets, and part location
Setup and operate the following equipment. CNC and manual mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, waterjets and band saws
Composite and Metallics Machining
Reads and understands engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning & tolerancing, and work orders
Accurate use of precision measuring instruments (ie: micrometers, calipers, etc,) and working to tight tolerances
Visually inspect and deburr parts. Attention to detail and quality is required
Performs other duties as assigned

Wage range for this role is between $27 - $58 an hour plus a discretionary bonus, 401(k) matching, vacation, and health benefits. Employees can also receive additional pay for off-shifts, off-site work, and access pay. The range provided is Janicki's estimate of the base compensation for this role. WORK ENVIRONMENT

TYPICAL MATERIALS, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Materials worked on: Ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys; non-metallic
materials; new unproven materials.
Materials worked with: Layout dye, cerrobend, lubricants and cutting oils, solvents,
screws, nuts, bolts, rivets, parts and accessories.
Tools used: Mechanics' hand tools, precision measuring instruments, gauges, form
blocks, templates, jigs and fixtures, levels, portable drills, and special fabricating metal
fitting and assembly tools.
Equipment used: Precision and standard power machines and equipment such as:
Bench lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, jig borers, drill presses, power and
hand saws, hydraulic jacks, sheet metal hand and power fabrication machines,
engraving machine and internal-external cylindrical grinder.
Basic Qualifications
• Must possess a complete knowledge of machine shop theory, practice and procedure; advanced shop mathematics.
• Use precision measuring instruments to verify in-process
hardware to required tolerances and dimensions.
• Have a good knowledge of sheet metal operations.
• Must be able to set-up completely and operate all basic types of machine tools, as required.
• Ability to apply a comprehensive knowledge of shop techniques necessary to work metals to required specifications without conventional tooling, when required.
• To read and interpret complex engineering blueprints and
assembly drawings.
• To work from incomplete engineering verbal, written and sketch information.
Desired skills
• Skilled in designing parts in AutoCAD for fabrication, with attention to detail and precision.
• Ability to perform troubleshooting and assembly/disassembly of hardware components and systems, with a focus on resolving complex issues.
• Willingness to consult with and assist engineers and scientists in the design of parts and components for their projects, providing expert guidance and support.
• Attention to details, fast learner, motivated, innovative, willing to continuous learning and growing.

Description:IAM Hourly represented employees who currently work at the main (Sunnyvale/Palo Alto) unit, Santa Cruz, VAFB or Eastern Range facilities must apply to open requisitions on Brass Ring to be considered for the position. This occupation requires the complete set-up and operation of the following precision and standard power machines: Duplicating, horizontal boring mill, jig borer, lathe, milling machine, planer and precision grinder; the planning, layout, machining and assembly to precision tolerances of parts and tools developed to meet research standards and specification.
Must be able to and normally does perform the following duties:
Set-up and operate above machine tools and metal fabricating machines, to completely
and independently perform any operation within their capacity.
Layout, machine fabricate and assemble to exacting tolerances or extremely close
dimensions, intricate precision parts and assemblies, sheet metal items and shop
tooling devices, including small dies, jigs and fixtures incidental to work being
performed.
Work from sketches or verbal instructions in fabricating and assembling completely to
exacting tolerances small intricate assemblies, requiring extreme care to insure proper
adjustments, clearances, alignments and coordination.
As required, perform hand and honing operations on surfaces, bores and pivots to finest
tolerances and surface specifications.
As required, operate power-forming or cutting equipment in working and forming sheet
metal stock to desired specifications and characteristics.
