Machinists in this position participate in the design, fabrication and assembly of various production and research projects. Using a variety of precision machines (e.g., lathes, grinders, EDM, CNC and milling machines) to support aircraft engineering and production groups.
Position Responsibilities:
Perform bench work (e.g., drilling, honing, tapping, reaming) on production and experimental parts, as required

Principal Responsibilities
Ability to operate CNC and manual Lathes.
Low quantity runs
Review setup sheets and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence and dimensions; read and understand blueprints, bill of materials, and other specifications to determine product requirements.
Assemble cutting tools in holders, set cutter length, and position in machine spindles; select part holding fixtures and index part as needed to machine as required.
Loads control media in machine control console or enter commands to retrieve pre-programmed machine instructions from database; edit machine speed and feed.
Performs a variety of inspection and gauging operations to insure maintenance of quality standards and specifications; observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
Measures work-piece for conformance to specifications, utilizes override control to correct conditions that are out of tolerance, and notifies supervisor of discrepancies.
Machine Titanium, Brass, Copper, Inconel, Steel, Stainless, Plastic and Aluminum.
Cleans machine, tooling, and parts; performing basic machine maintenance.
Specific Job Skills
MasterCam knowledge and mill turn with live tooling a plus, but not necessary.
Capable of reading aerospace blueprints and specifications.
Self-motivated, quick learner and problem solver.
Possess a strong attention to detail.
Skilled in reading and operating various inspection equipment.
Ability to comprehend information and ideas presented orally and written.
Competent in basic math; using all units of measure, whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; computing rate, ratio, and percent; drawing and interpreting bar graphs.
Knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel and Predator software.
Ability to edit and do CNC programming a plus.
Qualifications
One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A Day in the Life
