Implement the Production Fulfillment Process steps by creating programs for CNC machine tools related to the fabrication of parts according to customer requirements while minimizing costs. Second of two levels of CNC programming. Uses knowledge of machine operations to develop code to control machine operation. Works primarily from engineered drawings and specifications using knowledge of machine operation and develops code to control machine operation. May determine the suitability of a part for automation and may determine the appropriate machine assignments on the basis of efficiency and quality requirements. Prepares process plans, including positioning of carriage and/or tool, rate of feed, speed of rotation, tool changes, type of tool, sequence of operations and other applicable variables. May work directly with machines and machine operators to verify the accuracy and safety of programs. Assignments tend to be more complex, with unusual shapes, sizes, finishes and materials included. Short runs on valuable and complex parts may provide for less opportunity to use trial runs and fine-tune programs. At this level, may provide work training and direction to others.
Essential Job Functions
Develop programs to control machining or processing by automatic machine tools, equipment, or systems:
Analyze job orders, drawings, blueprints, specifications, and other design data to calculate dimensions, tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates
Determine the sequence of machine operations, and select the proper cutting tools needed to machine parts into the desired shapes
Prepare blueprint layout using computer assisted drafting software
Write programs in the language of a machine's controller and store programs on media such as punch tapes, magnetic tapes, or disks

The CNC Machinist II would join a team of skilled professionals in our CNC Machining department, working on CNC lathe machines (Okuma), manual machines (Bridgeport and lathe), and on the bandsaw. One must have the knowledge and ability to set-up machine, touch-off tools, edit G-code programs, and be able to read measuring instruments correctly as part of the daily duties. Being able to program new parts in G-code is a plus. We are looking for someone with good lathe experience but also the desire to learn vertical milling (Milltronics) when overloaded with work. The CNC Machinist would be working with other members of the manufacturing team on a regular basis (CNC machining, manual machining, bandsaw operations). Qualifications & Skills

Proficiency with precision measuring tools and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).

Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior CNC Machinist with advanced expertise in CNC programming, tool selection, and precision machining processes. In this role, you will be a key contributor to the manufacturing of our cutting-edge hypersonic systems, producing complex, high-precision components to meet engineering specifications. You will set up, operate, and maintain CNC equipment, drive process improvements, and mentor junior machinists to elevate the overall capability of our team.
Key Responsibilities:
Mentor entry-level and junior machinists, fostering skill development and professional growth
Program, set up, and operate CNC machines (including ST-45L lathers and VF-5XT mills) to produce precision components
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using advanced mathematical skills and precision instruments (micrometers, vernier calipers)
Machine parts to specifications using a variety of tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders
Measure, examine, and test completed units to verify specifications and maintain high-quality standards
Diagnose and resolve machine malfunctions through observation, testing, and adjustments
Maintain detailed documentation, including process sheets, inspection reports, and CAM data, to ensure part traceability and compliance with quality standards
Select and optimize cutting speeds, feed rates, and tooling based on machining instructions, material properties, and best practices
Machine a variety of materials, including carbon fiber, fiberglass, and graphite
Conduct and document in-process inspections to ensure quality at every stage of production
Support, promote, and demonstrate VALTs core values
Provide constructive feedback and recognition to promote team engagement and success
Qualifications:
Associate or bachelors degree in mechanical engineering technology (preferred)
Minimum of 6-10+ years of CNC machining experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role
Vocational training or job-related coursework (preferred)
Expertise in machining processes, tool selection, machine setup, and maintenance
Proficiency in SolidWorks, blueprint reading, and GD&T interpretation
Proven experience in CNC programming and machining, including FANUC controls
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently
Effective in fast-paced, cross-functional manufacturing environments
Deep understanding of production processes, quality control systems, and cost efficiency practices
Ability to obtain and maintain secret/TS level security clearance
