Job Summary: The CNC Lathes produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. Requirements: Specific Responsibilities Include: Review work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine the amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock. Programs lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs. Sets-up lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; trimming heads. Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards. Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes. Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures, regulations, and plant safety. Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements. Documents actions by completing production and quality logs. Ensure efficient and timely processing of various job orders by organizing work to be performed according to complexity, materials used, anticipated completion time, etc. Account for time and work completed via the online computer data collection system. Meet established standards for productivity and quality. Confers with the supervisor when problems occur which impact expected levels of performance. Other Skills: Demonstrate competency in basic shop math Must be able to read and understand blueprints Good verbal and written communication skills Possess the ability to drive for results, hold self-accountable, and continuously improve. Education: High School or equivalent experience Certification or experience preferred in a related field Physical Requirements Most of the job function is performed in a manufacturing setting requiring high safety precautions and physical demands.
