    Perform basic layout and machining operations on components and products. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Operate most types of machine tools (i.e. horizontal and vertical boring mills, lathes, milling type machines) in an efficient manner. Perform basic layout work in accordance with drawings, standards, and specifications. Align and setup components in the machine tools. Grind tools to the proper cutting geometry. Report abnormal conditions of equipment to Foreman. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Work in a safe and secure manner and comply with the safety rules and procedures. Perform small repairs and preventative maintenance on the machine tools. Operate jib cranes, forklifts, and other mobile equipment (except heavy cranes) for the moving of material, components, and equipment from location to location within the plant. Occasionally operate overhead cranes and towmotors in support of small moves to continue production within the department. Perform general laborer duties as required (i.e. grinding, loading and unloading of trucks and railcars, bricking furnace). Keep working area clean and perform housekeeping duties around the plant as required (i.e. pickup tools, roll-up hoses and cables, sweep). Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS Capable of performing basic math computations involving decimals and fractions. Capable of reading and understanding Engineering drawings and documents. Capable of lifting 50 lbs. up to waist. Requires 24 months minimum of job-related work experience. WORKING ENVIRONMENT Possible exposure to chips flying. Exposure to dirty and greasy work environment. Close visual and mental attention required. Exposure to normal shop noises of grinding, chipping, high pressure gas burners, and repair operations.
