Position OverviewThe Technical Support Technician (Tier I) position is assigned to a KU IT Technology Support Center (TSC) and is responsible for providing technical support to the users associated with that TSC while working under direct supervision, following standard procedures and documentation to accomplish assigned tasks. A positive work ethic centered around outstanding and careful customer interaction and support is required. This position serves as the first point of contact for troubleshooting hardware/software, PC/Mac/Linux workstation support, AV equipment, and / or printer problems. The position is responsible for following standard procedures (where present) and written instructions (when provided) to accomplish assigned tasks. The position assists users via telephone, email, chat, remote, and in person with a wide range of questions, problems, and requests related to desktop software, hardware, peripherals, applications, and basic network issues.

Job Description65% - Meet customer requirements through first-contact resolutions with excellent customer service and satisfaction. Provide technical support via phone, email, chat, remote, and in person. Identify if the technical issue can be quickly resolved or if it needs to be escalated to / researched by a higher-level KU IT technical support unit. Continuously look to improve current support and business processes through these interactions. This support will include:
Support of computer equipment utilized by campus stakeholders in classrooms, labs, offices, and meeting spaces.
As required, general support of AV systems utilized by the TSC in a mix of classrooms, labs, offices, and meeting spaces.
As required, general support of special use instrumentation systems utilized by the TSC in a mix of classrooms, labs, offices, and meeting spaces.
Creating/updating trouble tickets as indicated by the workflow.
Identification as to whether the technical issues encountered can be quickly resolved or need escalation to higher-level technical support staff.
Support, install and upgrade new and existing computer equipment including imaging.
Troubleshooting hardware and software issues for labs, faculty, staff, students, etc.
Tests to isolate the source of issues.
Preparation of spaces prior to use to ensure requested technology is available and working when requested for classes, meetings, or events.
Confirming customer understanding of the solution and provide additional customer education as needed.
Documentation: Maintain accurate inventory information for both hardware and software products. Create and update procedures and knowledgebase articles.
35% - Complete projects and other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
Provide quotes for new equipment procurement.
Maintain accurate inventory information for both hardware and software products.
Support, install and upgrade equipment, including imaging of new computers.
Create and document trouble tickets as required by the workflow.

Perform inspection, maintenance, testing and repair of transformers, circuit breakers and all related equipment - 45 KVA to 130 MVA, dry type and/ or oil filled.
Perform maintenance, testing, reconditioning and repair on circuit breakers - low voltage 480 volt (molded case and air-magnetic) medium voltage up to 15 KV (air-magnetic and vacuum)
Experience filling and working with SF6 filled equipment and gas insulated switchgear, desired but not required.
Test and inspect low and medium voltage cable installations.
Experience operating high voltage test equipment including Doble Power Factor test sets.
Perform start-up, troubleshooting and repair services on controls and transfer schemes.
Rotate emergency on-call duty and if called respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.
All work and decisions shall be conducted in strict compliance of all regulatory laws.

Your New Job
The Position:
Field/Network Tech I is an entry level position that requires zero experience. Field Technicians are individuals who work on telecommunication broadcast structures that do not require work at elevations not reachable by bucket trucks or aerial lifts. Field Technicians work with DC Powerplants, Batteries, AC Electrical Systems, Transmission Lines and Fiber Optics. This position does require a significant amount of travel during the work week (Monday through Friday). True North provides on the job training and certifications will be provided during your employment.
Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
Technician is knowledgeable in DC electrical systems.
Technician is knowledgeable in AC electrical systems.
Technician understands the relation between wire size and breaker ampacity.
Technician has an understanding of basic tool use and uses the appropriate tools for the job being performed.
Technician can read and understand construction drawings and data sheets and builds sites accordingly.
Technician has proven that they can execute all varieties of Exothermic Welding.
Technician understands how to properly label cabling in a cell site per carrier standard (power, fiber, grounding, ethernet)
Technician understands proper grounding techniques according to NEC.
Technician has the ability to terminate and install connectors including CAT5e/CAT6 JMA and LMR connectors.
Technician is competent in all stitching types. (X-Hitch, H-Hitch, Running stitch, Switch stitch)
Technician can operate an Antenna Alignment Tool and gather all necessary documentation without fail.
Technician understands and can properly install color coding with minimal direction
Technician can operate a RET Controller and gather all necessary documentation without fail.
Technician can operate a PIM Tester and gather all necessary documentation without fail and can troubleshoot the source of failure.
Technician can operate a Fiber Tester and gather all necessary documentation without fail and can troubleshoot the source of failure.
Technician can operate a Sweep Gear and gather all necessary documentation without fail and can troubleshoot the source of failure.
Technician can operate a Capstan Hoist Safely and Properly without any direction.

Scope of Work
Unix/Linux Systems Administration.
Responsible for providing advanced technical support, solving complicated technical issues associated with daily system administration, operations, repair and surveillance for multiple large scale Unix and Linux-based platforms in complex Operational Support System (OSS) network environments.
Will work with representatives from multiple clients in support of meeting their Service Level Agreements for system availability and uptime, privileged account management, and system optimization and enhancement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform Tier 2-3 System Admin support and troubleshooting functions for Managed Services customer's critical OSS infrastructure.
