DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Overseeing academic operations and management, including curriculum development, recruitment of 10+ staff, 45+ faculty, guest lecturers, visiting artists, 100+ graduate students.
  • Responsible for strategic management for preparing, implementing, and maintaining the annual department budget as well as all scholarship, equipment procurement, vendor contracts and negotiations.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly meetings with the staff and provide the Chair with updates on departmental activities and operations.
  • Manage and maintain the 24/7 operation of a high-end digital art lab consisting of networked Macintosh, Windows, and Mac workstations, editing rooms, network servers and various audio/visual equipment. Work with the systems and facilities staff to coordinate and follow up on repair and maintenance issues.
  • Represent the department by participating in major annual industry events and festivals to increase the department's international profile as well as to recruit prospective students, faculty, guest lecturers and visiting artists.
  • Managing and supervising the admission process and helping shape the incoming class by conducting tours, application evaluations and interviews to prospective students.
  • Provide ongoing guidance and mentorship to assist current students and alumni with their career paths by working closely with the Career Development office.
  • Develop strong relationships with global industry professionals and recruiters in order to maximize employment, internship and potential faculty opportunities.
  • Maintain the network of 1,000+ alumni by hosting events and activities along with Alumni Affairs, as well as work closely with the staff to raise visibility of the department by tracking alumni's achievements.
  • Meet with students, student representatives, faculty, and staff as needed to troubleshoot any class needs, software/hardware issues, and thesis and creative production.
  • Assist faculty on course evaluations, schedules, course development, enrollment and promotion on their achievement.
  • Oversee, organize and attend special department events including orientation, information sessions, open studios, thesis presentations, commencement, and gallery exhibitions.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of all aspects of the departmental websites and related web projects, including: design, content development, production, programming, and working with the systems staff for server support.
  • Work with the Staff on various department projects including any print and online advertising as well as department branded promotional materials.
  • Oversee and work with the staff on management of lab assistants and student workers.
  • Prepare annual staff performance reviews. Administer department and college policies, rules and procedures as they relate to students, faculty and staff.
  • Research new products and services for possible integration into existing systems. Stay abreast of current developments in art, technology, and higher education, as they relate to the department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MA/MFA or equivalent degree preferred
  • Strong team-based leadership skills are essential
  • Extensive knowledge of digital arts is essential
  • Previous managerial and 3-5 years administrative experience.
  • Computer literacy with Macs and PCs
  • Proficient in all Google Drive tools
  • Ability to handle multiple projects & priorities simultaneously
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented
  • Very complex budget management skills
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and students

In this vital role you will lead a computational chemistry team based primarily in Amgen's Thousand Oaks CA research site. You will be well-versed in the current state of computer-aided design of small-molecule therapeutics and will be passionate about innovating and re-energizing computational chemistry for the 21st century.

The Director of Computational Chemistry will join the Computational and Data Sciences (CDS) team within the Amgen Center for Research Acceleration by Digital Innovation (CRADI). CRADI is a multi-disciplinary effort embedded within our drug discovery engine to revolutionize the discovery, design, and development of breakthrough differentiating therapeutics through industry-leading experimentation and digital innovation.

**Responsibilities:**

+ Leverage state-of-the art computational chemistry tools to accelerate the discovery and design of therapeutics across modalities, including small molecules, protein degraders, and molecular glues.

+ Build and execute a strategy for innovation in computational chemistry and computer-aided drug discovery.
