General Responsibilities Design and implement a sneaker design curriculum tailored to the needs and interests of the students. Lead sneaker design sessions that teach students the major elements of sneaker design, including concept development, color theory, and materials. Foster a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable sharing their creative ideas. Assess students' skills and provide constructive feedback to help them improve their designs. Collaborate with other instructors and program coordinators to integrate the sneaker design curriculum with other educational offerings, such as art and marketing. Track student progress and maintain accurate records of their design development. Facilitate regular communication with parents, guardians, and educational stakeholders regarding student performance and program updates. Ensure that all art supplies and design materials are properly set up, maintained, and stored for each class. Major Duties Curriculum Development: Develop lesson plans that cover the history of sneaker design, the major design elements (e.g., shape, materials, colors), and how to apply these principles to create unique sneaker concepts. Classroom Instruction: Lead students in creating their own sneaker mock-ups, from sketching initial ideas to refining them into a final design using traditional art supplies. Student Assessment: Regularly evaluate student progress, offering personalized feedback to help them generate ideas, create mock-ups, and learn how to market their designs. Community Building: Create a classroom environment that fosters teamwork and collaboration, encouraging students to share and critique each other's work in a respectful manner. Documentation and Reporting: Keep accurate records of student attendance, progress on sneaker design projects, and feedback, submitting reports as required. Designs and delivers professional learning for teachers focused on STEM pedagogy, technology integration, and curriculum alignment. Maintains coaching logs, schedules, and outcome data to inform and improve practice. Provides leadership and coordination for the division's competitive robotics program, including managing teams, events, coaches, and equipment. Builds and maintains industry partnerships to support robotics and expand student opportunities. Contributes to the design and implementation of STEM magnet and speciality programs and Virginia High School League-aligned robotics at the high school level. Develops and implements summer STEM/STEAM programming through curriculum support and in-class instructional coaching. Promotes real-world, project-based STEM instruction that drives innovation, problem-solving, and career readiness, while modeling ethical technology use and digital citizenship. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required) Must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree and be eligible for a Virginia teaching license. A minimum of five years of effective classroom teaching experience is required, preferably at the secondary level, with demonstrated success in STEM instruction. Experience as a lead teacher, department chair, or in another instructional leadership role is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong instructional coaching and facilitation skills; deep knowledge of STEM content, instructional practices, and curriculum design; and excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills. Proficiency with digital tools such as Canva and Google Workspace (Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Forms) is required. Preferred qualifications include certification in educational technology (e.g., ISTE or Google Certified Educator), familiarity with entry-level coding platforms (e.g., Scratch, Code.org, Tynker), and working knowledge of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) in educational settings. The ability to build strong, supportive relationships with students, teachers, and administrators is essential. The Class of 1966 Career Development Award provides funds for use during the summer "to enhance the quality of undergraduate teaching at Hamilton."
