RESPONSIBILITIES: Carpenters may perform any combination of tasks to assist on the construction site. This position performs a wide variety of duties and tasks that often require them to assist other trades people including laborers. Construct, erect, install and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, metal and wallboard using hand tools and power tools. Work with and install doors, hardware, trim, cabinetry, ceiling materials and millwork. Specific tasks may include building rough wooden structures, such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports and temporary frame shelters according to sketches, blueprints or verbal instructions. Examining specifications to determine dimensions of structures and measuring boards, timbers or plywood using various tools. Be proficient at sawing boards and plywood panels to required sizes, bracing forms in place with timbers, tie rods, and anchor bolts, and building framework to strengthen, protect or disguise buildings that are undergoing construction. Erect scaffolding for buildings and install ladders, handrails, walkways, platforms and gangways, install rough frames and bracing them with boards nailed to framework, install subflooring in building, or weld parts to steel structural members.
