Born from Tenet Healthcare, Conifer Health Solutions was founded in 2008.
In 2012, Conifer Health announced a strategic partnership with Catholic Health Initiatives.
Conifer Health acquired Illinois-based SPi Healthcare in 2014.
The spin-off announcement is the culmination of a strategic review of options for Conifer which was initiated by THC in December 2017 since the unit did not fit its long-term strategy.
However, the previous CEO was unwilling to act according to Glenview, with the strategic review being announced only post the installation of a new CEO in 2017.
Later in January 2019, the company sold its Chicago-area hospitals and related operations that brought down total operated hospitals count to 65 across nine states.
As of June 30, 2019, the company operated 65 hospitals, 23 surgical hospitals and ~480 outpatient centers in the United States through its subsidiaries, partnerships and joint ventures.
