1997: The Children’s Fund incorporated the Child Health and Development Institute of Connecticut in December to serve as its operating arm and began the process of establishing the institute.
In 2016 officials from Yale New Haven Children's Hospital announced that they were in preliminary talks with Connecticut Children's Medical Center to merge and form an independent children's hospital system.
2017: President and CEO Judith Meyers, who led the organizations for 19 years, announced plans to step down and transition leadership to Jeffrey Vanderploeg.
In 2017 talks of merger ended when a disagreement over what system the new hospital would be in, with Yale New Haven Children's Hospital wanting the system to be a part of Yale, and Connecticut Children's wanting the system to be completely independent.
2018: Jeffrey Vanderploeg was appointed President and CEO of the Children's Fund of Connecticut on October 1, 2018.
In early March 2020, Connecticut Children's teamed up with Teen Cancer America to open up a adolescent and young adult cancer unit for teens and young adults aged 15–30 throughout the region.
