Conservation International company history timeline

1987

Conservation International was founded in 1987 with the goal of protecting nature for the benefit of people.

1999

In 1999, as environmental issues continued to gain importance on the international stage, the UN General Assembly granted IUCN official observer status.

2010

The United Nations named 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity.

2019

A 2019 report by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services noted that up to one million plant and animal species are facing extinction because of human activity.
