ConMet company history timeline

1964

Our design innovations and superior manufacturing technology have made us the first choice in the commercial vehicle industry since 1964.

1964 – ConMet begins as a part of Portland Freightliner, a subsidiary of Consolidated Freightways, and builds its first aluminum foundry.

1989

1989 – Varlen Corporation of Naperville, Illinois, purchased ConMet.

1995

1995 – ConMet introduces a PreSet® Hub to help eliminate premature wheel end failure on trucks and trailers.

1999

1999 – Amsted Industries acquires Varlen Corporation.

2011

2011 – ConMet opens China Nanjing PreSet Assembly Plant, announcing our entrance into the Chinese market with the launch of PreSet wheel hubs.

2012

2012 – Introduces its proprietary wheel seals to the industry.

2014

2014 – Introduces its proprietary wheel bearings to the industry.

2015

2015 – ConMet reaches $1 billion in sales.

2016

2016 – Opens distribution warehouse in Charlotte, North Carolina to support aftermarket demand.

2017

2017 – ConMet announces PreSet Plus® SmartHub™, an intelligent in-wheel diagnostic system that will allow drivers and fleet managers to monitor the health of the wheel end through access to real-time data on important hub functions.

2018

2018 – Launches the Snap-in ABS Tone Ring, becoming standard in one of the major North American OEMs.

2018 – ConMet opens second facility in Monroe, North Carolina, dedicated to assembling wheel end components and supporting a growing demand for air disc brakes.

2019

2019 – Launches ConMet Digital, a business unit dedicated to providing a holistic view of unmatched, actionable intelligence that will allow fleets to make better, more precise decisions and drastically improve their operations.

2020

2020 – Launches ConMet eMobility, a business unit committed to the development of zero-emission commercial vehicles, helping fleets exceed Corporate Social Responsibility goals and comply with tough emissions regulations.
