POSITION DESCRIPTION DETAILS The Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on the company's fleet of heavy equipment, including backhoes, track hoes, skid steers and other construction equipment. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE Maintaining and repairing heavy-duty equipment. Diagnose, maintain, and repair equipment and trucks including issues with diesel, hydraulics, and heavy equipment needs. Performs preventive maintenance schedules, required inspections and winterization procedures. Responds to equipment repair needs, in the field, as required by conducting and/or coordinating repair activities. Corrects equipment deficiencies by replacing, repairing, or adjusting sub-assemblies. Verifies all adjustments or repairs. Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements. Maintains assigned equipment appearance, if assigned, by cleaning and washing. Maintains equipment records by documenting all services and repairs and filing them on-site. Assists with deliveries of heavy equipment to the job sites. Updates and improves technical knowledge and ability by participating in educational opportunities, and reading technical and regulatory publications. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE 2-3 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair. Technical/vocational school degree preferred. Class A CDL preferred. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. Must be able to read and understand wiring schematics · Performs basic fabrication and welding using MIG, ARC, OXY Acetylene, Torch, grinders, and other fabricating tools · Performs preventative maintenance and DOT/FMCSA inspections including wet and dry PM services and repairs that need to be addressed during inspection findings · Raises trucks, trailers or other equipment using hydraulic or air assisted jacks or hoists in a safe practice · Replaces worn or defective brake components including tire replacement · Diagnoses and repairs air conditioning systems. Responsibilities Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties Performs standard vehicle maintenance Performs standard component inspections and repairs Performs preventive maintenance Diagnoses standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable Identifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required Replaces defective components as instructed Performs facility maintenance duties Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available Works in accordance with all federal/ provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT) Performs other support duties as required to support operations. As a fleet mechanic, you will perform routine maintenance functions and automotive repair on Dodge Caravans, Toyota Prius, and yellow school buses for UTS. Who are we?
