Qaqaq Construction is seeking a General Laborer to support various physical tasks on construction sites. Responsibilities include site preparation and cleanup, trench digging, scaffolding setup, demolition, and debris removal. The role also involves loading and distributing materials, tools, and equipment to designated areas. May operate a range of hand and power tools such as air hammers, tampers, cement mixers, hoists, and measuring instruments. This position may also assist skilled trades and perform other duties as assigned.
**Responsibilities**
Essential functions will include:
+ Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate hazards.
+ Erect and dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures.
+ Load, unload, and distribute building materials, tools, and machinery to appropriate locations.
+ Measure, mark, and record layout dimensions for construction activities.
+ Operate pumps, compressors, or generators to power tools, equipment, or move materials.
+ Mix, pour, and spread concrete using portable cement mixers.
+ Control and direct traffic around work zones.
+ Dig trenches or ditches, backfill excavations, and compact or level earth using hand and pneumatic tools.

+ Proficient in the use of hand and small power tools.
+ Understanding of construction materials, methods, and tools used in building and repair work.

Minimum Qualifications:
+ At least 1 year of general labor or construction experience.
Physical and Mental Demands:
+ Occasionally lift, push, or pull 50-100 lbs; frequently lift, push, or pull up to 20 lbs.
+ Frequent bending, squatting, crouching, crawling, and kneeling.
+ Ability to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and ramps safely.
+ Prolonged standing for intervals of 2-3 hours.
+ Work at various physical levels (waist, eye, overhead).
+ Maintain balance on uneven surfaces and around obstacles.
+ Sufficient handgrip strength and coordination to operate tools and equipment.
+ Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with OSHA standards.

JOB TITLE:
Construction Laborer
JOB PURPOSE:
Under limited supervision, perform physical tasks involved with building, construction projects, moving and demolition; operate various power tools; clean and prepare sites and excavations, dig trenches, erect scaffolding, remove rubble and debris, move items and equipment; perform moving and setup and other duties as assigned.

Perform physical labor and heavy equipment operation including excavation, trenching, shoveling, and dump truck driving; operate necessary equipment; assist in the repair of concrete and asphalt.
Perform physical labor for masonry projects including mixing mortars and cement, operating a jackhammer and grinder, lifting and moving materials to and from various job sites.
Perform daily lubricating, cleaning and repairing of machinery, equipment and tools used in construction labor.
Assist with construction projects and perform general duties including running parts, demolition, paint preparation, wire pulling, pipe installation, installation of various construction materials, and work site cleaning.
Assist in snow removal duties by removing snow from sidewalks, steps, roadways and parking lots utilizing hand tools and/or heavy equipment, dump truck and sand truck.
Perform moving operations for equipment, furniture and specialized items.
Maintain security of goods and equipment during moving operations.
Notify supervisor of broken or damaged items.
Perform the dismantling, assembly or reassembly of objects as necessary.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist journeymen with labor-related duties.

The Student Built Housing Assistant supports the certified Student Built Housing Teacher in delivering a hands-on residential construction program. The Assistant helps supervise and guide students in the building of a home from the ground up, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. The role involves assisting with instruction, managing tools and materials, enforcing safety protocols, and contributing to students' development of construction skills and workplace habits.
Job Responsibilities:
Assist in supervising students during hands-on construction activities, ensuring adherence to safety procedures and tool use protocols.
Support the delivery of lessons and demonstrations by preparing materials, setting up equipment, and assisting individual or small groups of students under the direction of the teacher.
Help manage the daily logistics of the job site, including organizing tools, managing material inventory, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Reinforce proper construction practices as demonstrated by the teacher, including but not limited to framing, measuring, tool handling, and clean-up.
Support the teacher in overseeing timelines, task assignments, and subcontractor scheduling as appropriate.
Provide basic guidance and encouragement to students to develop teamwork, responsibility, and on-site conduct.
Assist with transportation of materials or supplies as needed, following all district guidelines.
Maintain consistent and positive communication with the supervising teacher and administration.
Participate in relevant meetings or training sessions as required by the district.
Support implementation of accommodations or modifications for students with IEPs or 504 plans, as directed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or building administrator, including site supervision, material pickups, and minor tool maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:

Relevant work experience in construction, trades, or a related field.
Ability to obtain or maintain district-mandated safety certifications (e.g., First Aid/CPR, OSHA-10 if required).
Experience working with youth or in an educational setting preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five or more years of experience in residential or commercial construction.
Previous experience in a school or educational support role.
Familiarity with power tools, building codes, or job site procedures.
Ability to drive a district vehicle if needed (valid driver's license and clean driving record).
Physical Demands:
